Eric Lidell's heroic performance and Christian testimony at the 1924 Olympics found not only an audience with Christians but with Oscar voters, when it became the upset Best Picture winner in 1981. Lidell's decision to not run a race, one in which he seemed destined to win, because it was on the Sabbath may seem out-of-step with today's fast paced culture, but audiences resonated with the story of one man standing up for a simple belief.
