MaryAnn Kilbourn asked: “I’ve always wondered how NFL coaches deal with teams with such huge personalities and out-of-control egos. What does it take?”
Joe: Well, basically here is what I found. The great players I had, they weren’t focused on money. They didn’t have selfish egos. To be a good player in the NFL – and the guys that I had around me were totally dedicated. They wanted to be the best they could be. The great ones were willing to sacrifice their own goals for the goals of a team. Those were the guys who really became successful and that’s the reason why we won football games.
