Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother
Born The Honourable Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon in 1900 into a family of British nobility, the Queen Mother was the wife of King George VI and mother to Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. With her husband, Albert, then-Duke of York, she and her family embraced all royal ideologies, including a life of duty and service, and adhered to royal traditions. The Queen Mother once, on the eve of a trip to Australia to open Parliament, expresed misery at the idea of leaving her baby with staff.
