Originally published by Jan De Brunhof in 1931, Babar is one of the most recognizable children’s characters in the world, surpassed perhaps only by Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh. In the story, Babar is captured as a child and brought to the city where he learns to become civilized. He returns to the jungle and his fellow elephants and is instantly raised as king. Not only does he impart his newfound knowledge of civilization to his fellow pachyderms, but he also goes on many fabulous adventures.
