Norman Vincent Peale was a minister when he wrote The Power of Positive Thinking and the 1952 book became highly influential although controversial in the religious community. Peale advocated that the key to a successful life is in the mind of an optimistic person. Through seeing the glass “half-full” one is able to have self-confidence, peace of mind and break the habit of worrying. Peale believed that the book gave people the tools they needed to have joy and personal satisfaction, and millions of copies later, his belief is still true.
