C.S. Lewis’ slim, straightforward defense of the Christian faith has been a benchmark in the lives of believers for over 50 years. Not only does the book present uncontrived arguments for why God exists and Jesus is His only son, it also catalogues Lewis’ own journey from atheism to belief. Because of that journey, documented so plainly, many others have also chosen to believe. Charles Colson, incarcerated member of the Nixon administration turned advocate for inmates; Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project; and noted philosopher C.E.M. Joad all came to faith in large part because of Mere Christianity. It is, quite simply, one of the most important and inspirational books in modern Christendom.
