Let’s face it, the world we live in today is a very frantic and hectic one. You have got bills to settle, mouths to feed, and an endless and ceaseless list of things to do every single day. It is no doubt why people are getting stressed out, which can also potentially lead to a multitude of serious health problems.

Though it might seem like there is nothing you can do to deal with stress because bills won’t cease to come, family and work responsibilities will always be difficult, and there’ll never be more hours in the day. However, you’ve got a lot of control of your life than you may think.

There are plenty of ways and techniques that can help you relax and reduce tension. Sure, we don’t have the means to avoid getting stressed out, but there are effective ways to relieve it. For a little help, listed below are five practical ways to suppress the stress in your life.

Keep Calm and Write

One of the best and perhaps the simplest way to relieve stress is to write. Though it might sound tedious and strange to you, jotting down your ideas on a regular basis can, without a doubt, help you have at least a stress-free life.

Writing down your thoughts can help you clear and brighten up your mind about all the things that have been bothering you. Consider jotting down your ideas for about 10 to 15 minutes every day. Write all the events that have been stressing you and how they made you feel.

Scribbling it down on a piece of paper or in a journal will undoubtedly give you a sense of comfort and relief that you may not be able to find in other stress management techniques. Getting it out on a paper can help you determine what’s provoking your stress and the amount of stress you feel for each of the factors. As such, you can look for much better ways to deal with these factors.

Stand Up For Yourself

Of course, you can’t do all things all at once, so why keep feigning that you can? Keep in mind that the more you commit to do something and don’t carry out the task, the fewer individuals will regard you as being dependable and trustworthy.

With that said, it’s best to be more assertive and learn to say “no” more often. Be sure to do this firmly. Study your schedule for the day to see or know if you don’t have the resources or the time to carry out extra tasks.

Relieving stress can be as simple and easy as saying “no.” When you learn to say “no” to a new responsibility, you are valuing your current commitments and guaranteeing that you will be able to allocate high-quality time to these tasks.

Learn to say the word “no.” It’s one word that can help you relieve stress and skip tasks that you think aren’t worthy of your time. Also, don’t forget to voice out your reason for turning down the request, but don’t elaborate explanations or justifications.

Calm Your Soul With Good Music

Whenever you feel stressed about a certain event, consider taking a break and listen to soothing and calming music. Music has proved to have a powerful impact on the mental state and mood of a person. Listening to soothing music can reduce cortisol, can have a positive impact on the brain and body, and can lower blood pressure.

If you like listening to rap or heavy metal, try listening to slower and softer music for the best results. It’s also ideal to keep this kind of music playing in the background while you study, work, or do your daily tasks to make changes to your stress levels subconsciously.

Get More Sleep

A lot of people may think that sleeping is a tiring and lazy way of relieving stress. However, it’s a very important and often overlooked or neglected stress management technique. A good, deep, and sound sleep offer your brain a chance to revitalize and refresh, which can give beneficial effects or impact on your cognitive abilities.

However, there’s a bit of an ironical relationship between stress and sleep. If you get too stressed, chances are, you’ll likely have difficulties in sleeping, which can eventually develop a savage sleep cycle. A quick solution to this dilemma is to tweak your sleep habits. Begin with smaller time increments, and from that, you’ll know how you feel and then regulate your sleep cycle accordingly.

Keep in mind that the more you get to have a good night’s rest, the better your health, mood, stress levels, and fitness will become. Sleep is vital and essential for a person to function. Thus, be sure to have at least eight hours of sleep. Dim the lights, switch the TV off and give yourself a bit of time to loosen up before sleeping.

Stress-Free Zone

A messy place will always be one of those factors that give us stress. If your office, home, workspace, or car is an ever-messy environment, it can, without a doubt, have a negative effect on our mental health. As such, it’s important to take some of your time to organize things and clean up.

By making your home or workspace a stress-free zone, your mind will instantly feel a sense of relief. So if you have got a lot of time, reduce the clutter in your office, home, workspace, or car.

Get rid of those things that you rarely use or has no value anymore. Instead of building these items up, consider holding a garage sale or donate them to charities. Also, make sure to sort through your documents to prevent documents and papers from stockpiling.

Assign a location for storing these items so that you can easily retrieve them when you need them. Also, develop a regular habit of cleaning your workspace after work to avoid piling up clutter on your desk.

Indeed, stress is inevitable. It has become part of our lives. However, that doesn’t mean that we should disregard it on purpose. Remember that too much-untreated stress can lead to serious mental and physical health problems.

But the good news is that stress is controllable. With the help of some stress management techniques and a bit of patience, you can reduce stress or at the very least make your life less stressful.
