Kevin Durant is not shy about his love and devotion for God. When he accepted the Most Valuable Player award in 2014, Durant immediately thanked God for the opportunity to pursue his dreams. “First off, I'd like to thank God for changing my life. It let me really realize what life is all about. Basketball is just a platform in order for me to inspire people, and I realize that,” said Durant. In fact, Durant credits pastor Carl Lentz of Hillsong New York City for teaching him that God is entirely about love, which helped him clear his mind from the misconceptions he had previously been bogged down with. In an interview GW Magazine Durant gave credit to God for every game his team has won and further commented by saying that Jesus was the Lord of his game.
The MVP speech was one of the biggest platforms in which Durant has spoken – and the award is one of the highest honors he’s accepted. Therefore, when he pays homage to his Lord and Savior that speaks volumes about his character and overall lifestyle.
