Would therapy help me lose weight? Absolutely. It's not necessary for everyone, however. If you feel depressed most of the time, always "blue", even suicidal, or if you have serious eating disorders like compulsive overeating, or bingeing or purging, or if your doctor has expressed concerns about your weight and you just cannot manage it alone, then a therapist may be an important ally as you try to make changes in your life. If you've noticed you often eat to find comfort in the face of difficult feelings you can’t seem to understand or resolve, then a therapist or counselor may be able to help. There are many therapists, in a wide range of different types and costs. Seek and you will find the right one for you. If costs are a concern, there are many practitioners who will work on a sliding scale, or through a clinic at little or no cost. Don't be ashamed, either. Therapy is a wonderful, helpful adventure. Strong, good people admit their problems and get help.
