Whether you're traveling this year, or staying put, try making a new friend. Reach out to someone new, and strike up a conversation. See what you have in common. Here's how: first, break the ice. Sometimes the slightest comment can instantly strike up a whole conversation. You could even try it while standing on line at the supermarket. Say, "Gosh, aren't these prices something?" Or, "I notice you're not buying any meat. I'm trying to cut down on meat myself to lose a little weight." When you approach someone based on a perception of him or her, it's an honor. It means you’re noticing them as unique, special, and important. You might also ask them something about themselves--where they're from, something about what they are wearing, their opinion on something in the news. Show interest in the other person, and that'll immediately create a bond. Everyone loves to feel interesting to someone else. Really take the time to talk. Find out who the other person is first, then share who you are and tell them who you are and what's important or and interesting to you. Don’t be afraid to share yourself. You'll see that you are not alone; everybody has something good to offer. You'll discover how many people share similar interests and that we can all help each other.
