When it comes down to it, overeating in the moment may be instant pleasure, but it has long-term consequences – and they are not at all fun. Is the extra weight you’re carrying all the time worth that quick-fix? Go ahead, carry around a ten-pound bag of bricks all the time, see how it feels. If you have 20, 30, 50 or more extra pounds, carry that much weight around, and see how much energy it takes! (I'm working with a 500 pound man right now. Imagine carrying around 300 extra pounds – the equivalent of two people all the time!) Do you really, really, really want to keep carrying that extra burden of weight? I’m sure you don't. Next time you're tempted, remember this formula: "short-term extra pleasure = long-term extra weight." Then let go of your heavy load (on your body and in your emotions) with each and every extra bite you don't take. Give it up and surrender the burden to God.
