One of the really successful women in my weight management workshops, Kathy, walks everywhere. She walks two miles to work and back each day. She takes the stairs, instead of elevators. She got a summer job leading hikes through the woods. But she doesn't think of it as exercise. It's just a way to get around, see nature, slow down, and be reflective. She loves to walk. It is not exercise to Kathy. Walking is a lot of fun! Perhaps that's why she's lost 214 pounds, and has kept it off for over five years. Try walking. You'll like it, too. Just make time for it. Schedule your walks. Start with one a day -- even if it's only ten minutes. Then increase the time and distance each week, in five-minute increments. I love to walk, too. I walk an hour a day. I love to carry my portable music player in my pocket and listen to my favorite tunes. If I factor in the time to walk in my daily commute to work, it makes moving very doable.
