I love peanut butter and wheat crackers (as does my husband) and I find that lately I am addicted to eating them in the morning and at night. I have heard that peanut butter is fattening though and that I shouldn't eat it at night if I want to lose weight. What are your thoughts? Anything is "fattening" if you eat a lot of it. Peanut butter, in moderation, is not a "bad" food, though. It has a lot of protein in it, and while it does have a lot of fat, it’s at least unsaturated fat. That means it is not from animal sources, and will not give you bad cholesterol problems, if consumed in moderation. However, and this is important – be sure to count it within your overall Joy of Weight Loss Food Plan, or within the boundaries of the USDA Food Pyramid. If you seriously want to lose weight, realize that a mere two tablespoons of peanut butter is two ounces, and considered a serving of protein. If you’re only having two or three servings a day of protein (or 4-5 ounces), then you might want to eat a lot less of that lovely peanut butter! Having it morning and night, in addition to other protein during the day, sounds like too much if you want to lose weight. Be careful of too many wheat crackers too, as they’ll not help you get thin if you have too many servings. As for the question of eating at night, I heard that there’s really no proof that nighttime eating adds pounds, although most of us believe it does. You say you and your husband do it together. Instead of eating crackers and peanut butter, hold each other and be affectionate instead. And/or trade massages and positive praises for each other. Love is far better than peanut butter and crackers, day and night!
