“I never in a million years imagined this would happen.... It was a whirlwind,” said Ashley McIntyre in an interview with the Courier-Journal. “It’s crazy how it all worked. It was all planned out by God.”

When Ashley McIntyre heard about Danny Robinson’s struggle as a dialysis patient and that he was in need of an organ donor, she wanted to help. Diagnosed with a kidney condition at age 16 that caused inflammation and damaged kidney function over time, times were not always easy for Robinson.

“I was on dialysis three days a week, four hours a day,” said Robinson.

While family members offered to donate their organs, unfortunately none were matches.

After hearing about Robinson’s story from her mother, McIntyre was moved and contacted the local transplant program to begin preliminary testing. She ended up being the one.

They were perfect matches and the surgery went great, After getting to know each other more following the surgery and finding out they had far more in common than being donor matches, a year later, he proposed to her on Christmas Day. Listen to the couple’s beautiful story in the video above.
