When I was in high school, I worked for a lady who had been afflicted as a child by juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. As a result, she was confined to a wheelchair.\u00a0 Remarkably, her disability did not stop her from going to college and graduate school.\u00a0 When I met her, she was a social worker at our local hospital.<\/p>\n
I performed what you might consider to be nurse\u2019s aide work for her. I sometimes would go to her house before school and bathe her and help her get ready for work.\u00a0 At other times, I would stop by her home in the evening to help her get ready for bed.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t complicated work. It certainly didn\u2019t require a degree or a certification.\u00a0 At the time, I didn\u2019t think I was doing anything terribly special.\u00a0 However, that job changed me.\u00a0 It made me confident in my ability to help another human being.\u00a0 It took away my squeamishness for dealing with the physical needs of others.\u00a0 And it reinforced to me that our bodies are just houses for what is most important about us \u2013our thoughts, our words and our souls.<\/p>\n
That job was a small opportunity by the world\u2019s standards. The pay was minimal.\u00a0 It was part-time.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t at all glamorous.\u00a0 And yet I am a different person today because of it.\u00a0 There are no small opportunities.<\/p>\n
God presents us with opportunities in order to transform us. Those opportunities may not seem like much on their face.\u00a0 But don\u2019t discount them.\u00a0 You don\u2019t know how an opportunity might change your life.\u00a0 Moreover, you don\u2019t know whose life you might change<\/em> if you take that opportunity.<\/p>\n Jesus, a young man around 30-years-old, gave 12 other men the opportunity to follow him. There was no money involved.\u00a0 He couldn\u2019t pay them.\u00a0 There was no prestige.\u00a0 In fact, by following him they put their lives at risk.\u00a0 Yet by accepting that opportunity, the disciples had the honor of participating in events that changed the course of human history.<\/p>\n Your opportunities today may seem small. But have no doubt that God can do great things in you<\/em> and through you<\/em> in any situation.\u00a0 You just need to say yes.\u00a0 And then you need to bring your goodness, kindness and compassion to whatever you do.\u00a0 Let God mold you.\u00a0 Let Him use you.\u00a0 And remember that there are no small opportunities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" When I was in high school, I worked for a lady who had been afflicted as a child by juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
