Or perhaps we just make it that way.\u00a0 Sometimes it helps to go back to that old fashioned advice.\u00a0 You know what I am referring to.\u00a0 Those sayings that sound simple, but are packed with wisdom.\u00a0 Consider some of the following pearls to keep your life on the right track:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe early bird catches the worm.\u201d<\/strong> Ugh.\u00a0 What an awful image!\u00a0 But the point is a good one.\u00a0 People who get up early tend to be more successful.\u00a0 It takes discipline to get up early every day and go to work or run a household.\u00a0 And if you are disciplined in one area of your life, you typically will be disciplined in other areas of your life, as well.\u00a0 So if you are an early bird, you\u2019ll be the employee who gets the job done on time.\u00a0 Your house will be the loveliest on your street.\u00a0 And your children will go to school each day properly groomed and well-cared for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cA place for everything, and everything in its place.\u201d<\/strong> A home in which everything has a place is peaceful.\u00a0 It is a refuge where you can relax and have a break from your cares.\u00a0 You can\u2019t relax if your home is a clutter-filled mess.\u00a0 You\u2019ll notice that mentally together people tend to have well-organized homes.\u00a0 Whereas, mentally scattered people tend to have homes that are messy and disorganized.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAn ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.\u201d<\/strong> I am a big believer in preventing problems before they occur.\u00a0 This holds true in all areas of our lives.\u00a0 How many marriages end in divorce because spouses don\u2019t prevent problems?\u00a0 They only begin to make an effort when it is too late to mend the relationship.\u00a0 This adage is equally true with regard to our health.\u00a0 By not overeating, smoking and drinking alcohol, we can prevent numerous illnesses.\u00a0 For example, giving up sugary sodas and candy today may be a little uncomfortable, but it is a lot easier than trying to lose 10 to 20 pounds one year from now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhen one door shuts, another opens.\u201d<\/strong> Realize that when you lose something, whether it be an opportunity or a relationship, something else always will come along to fill its place.\u00a0 And generally, if you are kind and patient, whatever comes along will be far better than anything you could have ever imagined.\u00a0 Have faith that when one door shuts, it is because you are destined for something far better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAll truths are not to be told.\u201d<\/strong> I\u2019m not a big fan of the truth, largely because it is hard to define what truth is.\u00a0 We all have a very different experience of life, so what is true for me, may not be true for you.\u00a0 I value encouraging people over the truth.\u00a0 I believe in building people up at every opportunity.\u00a0\u00a0 It is so important to draw out the talents and gifts of others, even if those gifts are not\u00a0readily apparent.\u00a0 For instance, a little girl may not be a good piano player today.\u00a0 But if you tell her \u201cthe truth\u201d of that, she will <em>never <\/em>play the piano well.\u00a0 What you don\u2019t know, is that she may have the seeds of a great pianist inside her.\u00a0 Those seeds simply need to be nourished and encouraged.\u00a0 So what is the point of being truthful with the little girl?\u00a0 The truth does not always make things better.\u00a0 Very often it is just a way to hurt other people.\u00a0 The key is to only speak the truth when it is coupled with wisdom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cGive credit where credit is due.\u201d<\/strong> We are a society that is stingy with praise.\u00a0 No one wants to give credit for a job well done.\u00a0 If you want to know why your personal relationships aren\u2019t working, think about the last time that you paid someone a compliment.\u00a0 If it has been more than 24 hours, you probably have relationship problems, and you most assuredly have a \u201cpraise problem.\u201d\u00a0 We should be constantly giving credit to others and building each other up.\u00a0 Think about the dynamic in your home.\u00a0 Does everyone in your family build each other up?\u00a0 Or is it your family\u2019s dynamic to criticize, tease and undermine confidence?\u00a0 Many families do this, and the excuse is that it is \u201call in good fun.\u201d\u00a0 Or the excuse from parents is that \u201cthat is the way siblings interact.\u201d\u00a0 How utterly sad.\u00a0 Make sure that your home is one in which everyone is encouraged.\u00a0 Make sure every family member leaves the house each morning feeling confident to face the world.<\/p>\n<p>I love old sayings. So often we say them without thinking about the meaning behind them.\u00a0 But if we thought about them and applied them to our daily lives, how much easier our lives would be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Life can be overly complicated sometimes.
