{"id":269,"date":"2016-06-14T11:54:11","date_gmt":"2016-06-14T11:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/yourmorningcupofinspiration\/?p=269"},"modified":"2017-02-21T02:01:45","modified_gmt":"2017-02-21T02:01:45","slug":"stop-asking-for-permission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/yourmorningcupofinspiration\/2016\/06\/stop-asking-for-permission.html","title":{"rendered":"Stop Asking for Permission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/390\/2016\/06\/red-coat-hiking-A.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-695 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/390\/2016\/06\/red-coat-hiking-A.jpg\" alt=\"red coat hiking A\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When we are children, we are trained to ask for permission to do just about everything.\u00a0 At home, we ask what snack we are allowed to have.\u00a0 At school, we ask if we can go to the bathroom.\u00a0 As children, we have very little authority to do anything without the permission of an adult.<\/p>\n<p>One of the challenges of becoming an adult to learn to let go of the idea that we need someone else\u2019s approval to do things.\u00a0 It can be a need for approval for little things.\u00a0 \u201cDoes this dress look good on me?\u201d\u00a0 To big things. \u00a0\u201cShould I quit my job?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, as adults, we need to learn to rely on our own judgment.\u00a0 We need to learn to trust ourselves.\u00a0 We need to make decisions and be willing to bear the consequences.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of people get stuck in life, whether it be in bad marriages or bad jobs, because they are looking for permission to do what is necessary to improve their lives.\u00a0 Unfortunately, no one is going to tell you to make a big change.\u00a0 No one wants you to blame them if things don\u2019t go well.\u00a0 So as adults, we need to make decisions and take responsibility for the good and bad consequences of those decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, some people don\u2019t pursue their dreams because they are waiting for someone to tell them that they have enough brains, talent or beauty to do whatever it is that they want to do.\u00a0 If you are waiting for someone to tell you to do something amazing with your life, you are going to be waiting a long time.\u00a0 Most people will tell you to be \u201crealistic.\u201d\u00a0 They are going to cite the statistics which say that you have a one in a million shot of achieving your dreams.\u00a0 Ignore them.\u00a0 No one who has ever achieved anything great has gotten permission to do so.\u00a0 They simply have been bold and gone for it.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the best things I\u2019ve done in my life have been done without permission, and sometimes without the support of others.\u00a0 For example, my husband and I married without much support.\u00a0 It was a second marriage for both of us, so many people were wrapped up in how our getting married would affect <em>them<\/em>.\u00a0 We got married anyway.\u00a0 And it is the best decision I ever made.\u00a0 We are an amazing team, and he is a top notch husband.\u00a0 Our marriage has been one of my greatest blessings.\u00a0 And I am glad we didn\u2019t wait for permission to start our beautiful life together.<\/p>\n<p>The only permission that you need in life is from God.\u00a0 How do you get His permission?\u00a0 Through prayer.\u00a0 And through listening to the still, small voice.\u00a0 This is the voice that is God urging you to do more than you think you are capable of doing.\u00a0 It is the voice that tells you to jump out of your comfort zone, to use your God-given talents, and to be a blessing in this world.\u00a0 It is the voice that says you were ordained by the Creator to do something wonderful with your life.<\/p>\n<p>Today, consider whether you are holding yourself back because you think you need the permission of your friends or family to do something important.\u00a0 Make a decision to let go of the need for the approval of others, and follow God.\u00a0 He has a plan for your life.\u00a0 He wants you to be His representative on earth.\u00a0 He wants you to use your talents and abilities to bless others.\u00a0 And His is the only permission that you need.<\/p>\n<p>(Photo Courtesy of Pexels)<\/p>\n<p>Follow me at https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/yourmorningcupofinspiration\/<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When we are children, we are trained to ask for permission to do just about everything.\u00a0 At home, we ask what snack we are allowed to have.\u00a0 At school, we ask if we can go to the bathroom.\u00a0 As children, we have very little authority to do anything without the permission of an adult.
