But…. how do we do that? I know I have let my mind run wild many times over a situation or a person. I also have enough wisdom now to know that those are strongholds from the enemy. Let’s start with scripture on how we can protect our minds

Do not be conformed to the ways of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God- Romans 12:2

Since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every high- minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ- 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

These two very powerful passages are our battle plan, our defense against the enemy’s attempts to infiltrate our minds. The scripture tells us how to change our thinking as well as putting on the full armor of God. Here are 3 ways to help you..

1. Identify- the toxic thought patterns you’ve been nursing and recognize them for what they truly are- strongholds and with the enemy’s assistance have taken up residence in your mind. Those negative thoughts slowly destroy you.

2. Confess- Ask God for forgiveness about your toxic thoughts and take responsibility for your part. We only allow in what we allow in.

3. Dismantle- the strongholds by taking your thoughts captive. This is being conscious of your thoughts. It takes a little time but soon you will create a habit of replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts. The word of God is a huge part of this process. Learn from our creator and before you know it, you will start feeling like a new person with much less shame and guilt.

In biblical times, a stronghold was a military fortress. Nearly every ancient city had one and it stood at the highest point in their geographical area. It was designed to keep enemys’ out. We have to have that line of thinking when it comes to our minds. We must keep invaders out.

Not every stronghold is the enemy’s fault, we are willing to jump on the bandwagon too. Remember, gossip ends at a wise persons ears so allow God to work by praying for protection over your mind. It’s easy to get down in the muck of this world and the people in it. However, it only ends up harming you. You cannot live a positive life with negative thoughts.

If we don’t take every thought captive, the devil can have a field day with our thoughts.
