and you may have<br \/>\nnoticed that I did not give you a specific instruction for how to breath.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I just said, Keep Breathing!<span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">Well, that actually <i>is<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\"> the first instruction.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">Sit quietly with your spine<br \/>\ntall.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Close your eyes and place<br \/>\nyour attention on the movement of your breath, as it goes in and goes out.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Breathe in and out through your nose,<br \/>\nnot your mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">Notice the parts of your body<br \/>\nwhere it is easy to feel the flow of the breath and other parts where you can&#8217;t<br \/>\nfeel it at all.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Whatever you<br \/>\nnotice is perfectly fine.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>This is<br \/>\nbasic breath awareness and you can do it anywhere, for as long or as short as<br \/>\nyou like.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I do it on the subway<br \/>\nand airplanes, while waiting for the dentist or when I feel out of sorts and<br \/>\nout of balance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">I call this technique <b>Taking<br \/>\nRefuge in Your Breath.<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">Using the breath a focal<br \/>\npoint for the mind is a good because it is:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">1. always available<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">2.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>portable<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">3.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>the invisible bridge that connects mind and body<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">More breathing techniques are<br \/>\ncoming but start with this.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:16.0pt\">Try practicing Taking Refuge<br \/>\nin Your Breath whenever you can remember and just notice how you feel.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Does you feel a mental, emotional or<br \/>\nphysical shift?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>All of the above?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Anything?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Nothing?<span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Did you do your homework from yesterday?\u00a0 \u00a0 You probably already know that there are many specific yoga breathing techniques &#8212;
