Do you feel like everyone doesn’t know the real you? Do you feel like other people judge you because of the things you do or because of your mistakes? All of us can learn to not be as judgmental as we are. Casting Crowns gives us a glimpse into a girl’s life through the song, “Does Anybody Hear Her”. She is going through being judged by others because of her mistakes and she is longing for things that she hasn’t ever had in her life. The lyrics are as follows:

First verse: “She is running. A hundred miles an hour. In the wrong direction. She is trying. But the canyons ever widening. In the depths of her cold heart. So, she sets out on another misadventure just to find. She’s another two years older and she’s three more steps behind. Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see? Or does anybody even know she’s going down today? Under the shadow of our steeple. With all the lost and lonely people. Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me. Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?”
Anyone can go through times where we feel like we are three steps behind and getting older without doing anything with our lives. Maybe that’s what this woman in this song is going through. We try but everything sometimes falls apart. We feel as though no one even notices our struggles and we may even feel as though we are being ignored. We set out on adventures in our lives only to find out that we’re only getting older and that we haven’t done as much with our lives as other people. We notice that people judge us for the things we do and don’t do, so it can make it hard to keep up with others.
Does anybody hear us, does anybody see us in the middle of what we are going through? Does anybody even know that we could be going down in our own sadness? If you’re that sad, depressed or angry about something, or even that stressed about something, please talk to someone you trust. There is nothing worse than going through any emotional rollercoaster alone. Remember, there are many other lost and lonely people in the world. They are searching for the hope of God that is tucked away in you and me. Take the opportunity to tell others about God and the peace, not to mention the hope you have through having a personal relationship with Him.
Second verse: “She is yearning for shelter and affection. That she never found at home. She is searching for a hero to ride in. To ride in and save the day. Then in walks her prince charming. He knows just what to say. A momentary lapse of reason and she gives herself away. Chorus: Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see? Or does anybody even know she’s going down today? Under the shadow of our steeple. With all the lost and lonely people. Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me. Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?”
Everyone has gone through a search for self-fulfillment and affection that we don’t always get. Whether we don’t get attention from our family, our friends, or from others in our lives we look to fill those holes in any way possible. We often look to fill the void of the shelter, section, love, and friendship, partnership or relationships that are missing. We look to fill those voids with substances, sex, or alcohol or relationships with people who are bad for us. When we fall for someone who isn’t good for us. We search for someone to help us and save us from ourselves. When someone comes into our lives we expect them to save us. A momentarily lapse in judgment blinds our better judgment and we give ourselves away, because we weren’t thinking clearly, or at all. Does anyone notice the sadness in our eyes, in our voice or even anything that is on our minds? No, people probably won’t, unless you tell them how you feel.
Bridge: “If judgment looms under every steeple. With lofty glances from lofty people, who can’t see past her scarlet letter. And we never even met her. If judgment looms under every steeple. With lofty glances from lofty people who can’t see past her scarlet letter. And we never even met her. Never even met her.”
We can’t judge people when we don’t even know them. Why be like that? We will always get glances from people and starring will always be a factor. If we can’t see past someone’s scarlet letter, then we will be judged in the same way by God, when we get to Heaven.
Chorus: “Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see? Or does anybody even know she’s going down today? Under the shadow of our steeple. With all the lost and lonely people. Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me. Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see? Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see? Or does anybody even know she’s going down today? Under the shadow of our steeple. With all the lost and lonely people. Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me. Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see? He is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction.”
Remember, people will always judge us for the things we do and don’t do. But rather than being judgmental to others, be the person that points people to Christ. God doesn’t judge us for our sins if we ask for forgiveness. We shouldn’t judge others either, just because they sin. After all none of us are perfect.

Have you ever felt like no one knows you or that no one pays attention to you?
