The way Bart Millard sings, never ceases to amaze me. Their song “Word of God Speak” has always resonated with me. It almost always brings me to tears. The lyrics are as follows:

First verse: “I’m finding myself at a loss for words. And the funny thing is it’s OK. The last thing I need is to be heard. But to hear what you would say. Chorus: word of God speak. Would you pour down like rain. Washing my eyes to see your majesty. To be still and know. That you’re in this place. Please let me stay and rest in your holiness. “

This song allows us to pour our emotions into a prayer. We are allowed to feel overwhelmed by God and by being in His presence. It can pour over us like rain. Let God speak to you and speak to your heart, soul and mind. This song is a prayer to get to know Him on a deep personal level. Ask Him to come into your life and ask Him to speak His life and His words of wisdom over you. Ask Him to wash your eyes to see His majesty in every aspect of your life. He tells us to be still and know that He is everywhere with us, and that He has never left us on our own is an amazing feeling.

Second verse: “Finding myself in the most of you. Beyond the music, beyond the noise. All that I need is to be with you. And in the quiet, to hear your voice. Chorus: Word of God speak; would you pour down like rain. Washing my eyes to see your majesty. To be still and know that you’re in this place. Please let me stay and rest in your holiness.”

When we find ourselves in the midst of God’s presence, whether it is through song or through prayer, we are often moved to be still. We often are at a loss for words because we know that He is there within our hearts and within our midst. We realize that a relationship with Him goes beyond the music and beyond the noise. It goes beyond spending time with Him every week in worship and beyond being around other fellow believers. It goes deeper than just praying “Lord help me” when things aren’t going your way. All that we need is to spend time with Him every day. Just listen, in the quiet you will hear His voice. It may take time for his answer, but He will answer you.

Chorus: “Word of God speak. Would You pour down like rain. Washing my eyes to see Your majesty. To be still and know. That You’re in this place. Please let me stay and rest. In Your holiness. I’m finding myself at a loss for words. And the funny thing is it’s OK.”

We will always have moments where we’re at a loss for words in God’s presence. It is ok to be overwhelmed by God’s presence. It is often the best time to take God in for all that He is. He is the only person and being that we can never have full understanding of. But we can have the unending desire to get to know Him. The song is literally asking God to pour over us like rain, washing the guilt, sin and other things from our blind eyes. It is asking Him to show us His mercy and grace and His love. It is a prayer for God to be revealed to us through our eyes being opened. Allow Him to open your eyes and to spread His love around you and around everyone else in your life. It is ok to be at a loss for words when it comes to God. It is a completely natural feeling to be unable to speak sometimes when God moves you. Don’t ever be ashamed of being at awe of the Lord. It only shows your true devotion and not to mention the adoration that you have for Him as your Lord and Savior. Share this song with others in the hope that they will feel God’s presence through it as well. God’s love and His word are meant to be poured out by His followers and for them to be unafraid of bringing the gospel to others unapologetically. It is honestly ok to be stunned into silence when the spirit of God moves you. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing, because the spirit can hit you at anytime, anywhere. Maybe it is through this song on the radio. This song reminds us of how important He truly is in our lives. MercyMe and Bart Millard remind us of that.

MercyMe is one of my favorite artists.
