Toby Mac is a favorite artist for so many. His music makes people feel alive and energized.\u00a0 He is a man who is on fire for God both in spirit and in the lyrics he sings. One of my favorite songs by him just happens to be called \u201cBurn For You\u201d. It talks about wanting to be a person of faith and to fuel the desire to learn more about God, and it has such a catchy beat to it, that you literally can\u2019t help but dance to it when you hear it. It always made me think of being on a really high rollercoaster when the chorus comes on.\u00a0 The lyrics are as follows:<\/div>\n
First Verse: “I’m a brand-new man, I’m a conscious man. I’m a man who’s burnin’ for you. The mistakes I’ve made have been chased away to the bottom of the ocean blue. I’m a brand-new man in a foreign land, I’m a man who’s feelin’ that fire. And it’s all so clear when I’m standing here at the peak of my desire. So won’t you move me like you used to? I want the world to know I burn for you. Chorus: I feel revived again, I am alive again. (Burnin’ for you). You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up. I feel revived again, I’m energized again. (Burnin’ for you) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up. ”
\nIn Christ we are all made new. We are brand new in faith and should proclaim it proudly. The mistakes we\u2019ve all made have been chased away and aren\u2019t in Gods mind anymore, as long as we ask for forgiveness. We might feel as though we are in a foreign land when we have to witness to others about God\u2019s mercy and grace, but we should run that race and proclaim the good news to everyone. We can be the people that feel the fire of God burning within our hearts.\u00a0 We all should be saying, \u201cLord here I am send me where you want me to go. Use me in ways that only you can, for the advancement of your kingdom. I want to burn for you Lord.\u201d Only God can make us feel so alive that we want to dance and share the good news with anyone we can.
\nSecond verse: “Woke up in a sweat, those ghosts in my head. Had a grip, but I slipped on by. It’s a whole new day as the darkness fades. And the sun’s climbing in the sky. I concede, my love, that I need your love. I’m before you, a broken man. And it’s only you, no substitutes who can renew this soul again. So, won\u2019t you move me like you used to (used to)? I want the world to know I burn for you. Chorus: I feel revived again, I am alive again. (Burnin’ for you) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up. I feel revived again, I’m energized again. \u00a0Every day that we get to tell people about God is a day to celebrate. Every day that we get to draw closer to Him is a precious gift. We have to be willing to admit that we can\u2019t walk this path in life on our own. We have to be strong enough to admit that we need God as our guiding light. God is the only one who can change us and make us new from the inside out. He can make us feel alive again and fuel the desire in our hearts to get to know Him more.
\nBridge: “You got me higher than Kilimanjaro. Got me believin’ I can “save the day”. I’m up and running like there ain’t no tomorrow. I’d rather burn for you than fade away. I’d rather burn for you than go my way.”<\/div>\n
God can give us that feeling of happiness that makes us feel as though we are on top of the world. We can spread our faith like there isn\u2019t any tomorrow, because the reality of it is, we don\u2019t know when He will call any of us home to be with Him in paradise. I don\u2019t know about you, but I\u2019d rather burn for God than lose my way in the flames of this world any day.
\nRap: “I’m a whole new guy with a whole new vibe. Changed inside – more flame in the fire. Can’t stop, won’t stop praying for desire. Like the bunny on the screen feel so energized. Old shell gone without a trace, new face. No more shortness of breath, new pace. Live life now without the taste of fear. TobyMac, Double Dutch now let the smoke clear. Chorus: I feel revived again, I am alive again. (Burnin’ for you) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up. I feel revived again, I’m energized again. (Burnin’ for you) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up. ”
\nWe can be completely different people if we let God take control of our desires and transform our hearts, bodies and our minds as well as our souls. We don\u2019t have to stop praying for desire either. He will let that desire flame burn bright within us and the others will see it and feel it when they are around us and they might even ask how we have that feeling of peace in our lives. That gives us the perfect opportunity to share the Gospel. My favorite line in the whole song is \u201clive life now without the taste of fear.\u201d God doesn\u2019t want us to be afraid to get to know Him and have a great relationship with Him. Nor does He want us to be skittish about working for His Kingdom. We don\u2019t have to be afraid of this life on earth, or death either, because He has us in the palm of His hands. Live your life out loud for the one who gave it to you. So, shout it out loud that you know who He is and don\u2019t be afraid of what the world will say to you because of your faith. You are loved by the King of Kings. Toby Mac is right when he says we should feel energized to know how much God loves us.\u00a0We should be burning with desire for God, His word and for the life that He has in store for us. We can teach others how to “burn for Him” too.<\/div>\n
