We all have a disease called sin. But there is an ultimate cure for sin. We all sin daily. There is nothing we can do to avoid it. Satan has put sin in the world. God has sent His son Jesus to overcome sin on the cross. The ultimate cure of our sins is the cross. When Jesus gave His life for us on the cross He took all of our sins and inequities upon Himself, so that we could have a relationship with Him. Some may not see the cross as the ultimate sign of forgiveness and the cure of sin, but if God didn’t love us enough to save us, we wouldn’t be here. All of our sins would be piling on us and weighing us down. We wouldn’t be able to get through our lives as well as we are doing. Jesus and His sacrifice of life for us is the only reason we are not in Hell already for the sins we’ve committed against God and against ourselves and against each other. Think of some of the things you’ve done. Sins include unholy thoughts about wanting a person sexually, cheating on someone, having a baby out of wedlock, cursing, murder, lust, coveting what someone else has. The list of sins goes on and on. I’m sure you can think of many more than the ones mentioned.
The love of our savior was enough to overcome sin death and the power of the devil. In reality, we all deserve the eternal punishment of hell for the things we’ve done. It is a wonderful thing to know that Jesus is the one we can turn to for anything and everything. He saved us from our sin, because He loves us so much. The disease of sin is there everywhere we turn in the world. In our jobs, thoughts, bodies, minds, in our workplaces, in our homes, within our families and our friends. We sin daily no matter how hard we try not to. Sin is in this world whether we like it or not. It also seems that no matter how hard we try to stop sinning, it is unavoidable at times.

The guilt that we feel from sin is a good type of guilt. Jesus puts it on my heart every time I let nasty things come out of my mouth such as cursing. I’ve actually thanked Him so many times for helping me feel guilty for using swear words. It reminds me that He sees me and hears say those things and knows I’ll say them before they even enter my subconscious thoughts. It reminds me that I’m human and the best thing that I can do for myself and for others that are around me, is to try not to sin in that way. That good guilt also reminds me of the commandments and to try my best to follow them daily.
God can speak to your heart in many ways where you might be struggling with a specific sin, or a bunch of them. You can even pray a simple prayer like this to help you get through sins that you struggle with: “Lord, I’m sorry for the sins I’ve committed. I know I’m a sinner, but I also know that I’m one of your children. Help me to be a better person. Help me to walk away from the sin that is festering within me. Help me to turn towards you whenever I feel pressured to sin. Help me to live like you and to be an example for you. Lord, help me to live, not as the world lives, but as you want me to live. Help the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to you. Help my actions point pothers to you. Thank you for sending me you son to die in my place. Thank you for loving me enough to take away my sin. In Jesus name, Amen.”
Jesus told the woman who was about to be stoned for committing adultery to go and to leave her life of sin. He asked, who here has condemned you? “No one sir,” she answered. “Then neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.” That is exactly what He tells us to do, leave our sinful life and have a better life through Him and with Him.
Jesus didn’t have to die for us, but He did. He knew we needed a rescue from our ways. That rescue was the cross.

The cross is the ultimate cure of sin and the ultimate demise over sin, death and the power of the Devil. The Devil prowls around looking for someone to devour, but Jesus has already overcome the power of Satan, through His love, His life, death and the ultimate promise of His resurrection. We sin every day, but we can look to the cross for the ultimate cure of that disease, with hope, peace and a promise of eternal life in Heaven.

We recently got a new pastor at our church. He did a sermon about sin.
