They easily wander off from the shepherd and get into trouble. They can easily be compared to us and our own human nature in this world. Jesus is our Good Shepherd, who calls us by name and loves us unconditionally. Often times though, we run away or turn away from God in our own sins and in our selfish ways. When God tries to get our attention, we turn a deaf ear and say “no thanks, I can do things on my own.” We are going to get ourselves into a lot more trouble than what it is worth when and if we turn our back on our shepherd. Once we turn away from Him, things will start to unravel pretty quickly.
The world is full of sin and death and senseless acts of violence. The only way to be protected from that is by turning to the one who can take it away from us-God. Jesus is called the Good Shepherd because He guides us all in His Father’s name, all for the purpose of His Father’s name being glorified. He wants to be able to walk with us in our daily lives. He longs for a relationship with every one of His children. If Jesus wasn’t the Good Shepherd, then the Bible would be false, because He is referred to as the Good Shepherd multiple times there.
Sometimes we are deaf to what God has to tell us. Some days we don’t want to hear about God. There are days where people talking about God just annoy us. Or we annoy people talking about God. Some days there are days when we don’t want to hear it. But if we feel like God is trying to get our attention, whether through the work of someone in our lives, through a message at church, through song or scripture, we should listen and listen intently.

We shouldn’t take the things that God tells us for granted. If you feel like God is trying to get your attention through certain circumstances in your life, you can tune yourself in to what He says.

John 10:27 says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” We are the sheep and the children of God. We are supposed to allow ourselves to listen to His voice and to allow Him to lead us through our lives.
It is sometimes hard to listen to His voice when you can’t always hear what He says. Sometimes it’s hard to hear what God is saying because our doubts can cloud our judgement. Sometimes we don’t want to hear what God is saying because we think we can do better without Him. We think that we are in control and can always be in control of our own lives. Sometimes we may even think that our lives are too complex with God in them. That is the lie that the world and of course Satan, wants us to believe. We think we can stand on our own and after a while, we learn that we can’t do anything without God and realize how much better we are with God in our lives.
Psalm 95: 7 says, “For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand Today, if you would hear His voice.”
Isaiah 40:11 says, “Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.”
Psalm 23 is one of the most famous verses and most well-known verses in the Bible. It says, The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”
Psalm 29:8 says, “Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever.”
Psalm 79:13 says, “So, we your people and the sheep of your pasture will give thanks to You forever; To all generations we will tell of Your praise.”
Ezekiel 24:31 says, “As for you, My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, you are men, and I am your God,” declares the Lord GOD.”
He wants to be with us and to make Himself known to us as His sheep, through His word, His teachings. He wants us to hear His voice through the sermons that we hear at church as well through us being examples of His daily goodness and mercy to the people around us. The love He gives us through His teaching can never be replicated or replaced.

Sheep are often referred to as stupid animals.
