God’s Truth

Guilt is a tricky thing. Have you ever asked for forgiveness for something only to have Satan remind you of what you have already asked for forgiveness for at a later time? Have you ever been trying to complete a task and all of a sudden you feel inadequate about even finishing it? You start questioning why you’re trying to finish the task in the first place. He makes you second guess everything you’re doing or anything you’re thinking of doing at a moment’s notice. He tries to remind you of your past in order to stop you from pursuing your future. Rather than listen to him, focus on the truthy that God gives you, that you are His precious child.

You may feel sometimes as if Satan is trying to make you upset. I’ll be doing something like making food or working on music and Satan will be like “oh yeah remember the time you lied about this? Or remember this? Or remember the time you did that thing really bad?” Even though You know you’ve already asked God for forgiveness and know that He has forgiven you already 100 times over and even though you know that it’s a forgive forget kind of thing, Satan tries to bring it back up. It gets so frustrating sometimes and makes you feel defeated at times, right?

Guilt is a tough topic. So is remembering God’s promises for you even in the midst of your doubts. When you doubt God’s promises and His timing, you question whether He really has forgiven you don’t you? Have you ever had that feeling? The feeling of wondering whether or not God is really listening to your prayers, please and the tears of your soul? What about wondering if He will ever answer your prayers? He is there even when it feels as though He is radio silent. When the guilt becomes too much Satan knows he has you right where he wants you. He wants you to believe everything he’s telling you. He wants you to be rushed into doing or saying the wrong thing. He also wants you to focus on your guilt, instead of focusing on God’s promises.

Guilt is put in your heart when you believe that God hasn’t forgiven you for your past sins. Remember that it is a forgive and forget situation when you ask God for forgiveness for one or all of your sins and mean it with your full heart. God’s forgiveness covers you and should fill you with His peace that surpasses all human understanding. Whenever Satan tries to remind you of all the things that you’ve done wrong, try telling yourself that you’re already forgiven and that God has given you a fresh start. Remember, each new day is a fresh start to make your life better and to make the correct choices. You don’t have to believe the lies that Satan tells you. You don’t have to feel burdened or weighed down by the guilt that he tries to throw back into your heart.

Some verses that remind you that guilt doesn’t have to weigh you down include:

1 John 1.9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Confess whatever is making you feel shame, guilt, and regret. Remember you can always talk to God no matter how you feel. Telling God how you feel can help you overcome any guilt you might be dealing with. Ask God to help you overcome any guilt that you may be dealing with.

Micah 7:19 “He will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities, and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” Let your past sins go because you already have been forgiven.

Ephesians 5:25–26 “Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.” God loves you enough that He will do anything for you, especially relieve your pain.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!” Every day gives you a new opportunity to focus on your future instead of your past.

Because of God’s great love for you, you don’t have to feel guilty for your past sins. They are cast as far as the east is from the west. You don’t have to constantly give in to the reminder of your sins. Remember who you are in God’s eyes. He loves you no matter what.

Guilt is a tricky thing.
