bleed the same

Have you ever been driving and listening to the radio and suddenly, a song just hits your right in the heart? I had that happen to me not too long ago. I heard the song “At the Cross (Your Love Ran Red”) by Chris Tomlin. It was the first time I’d ever heard that song because I don’t listen to him too often. But the lyrics are so powerful and so true. It really made me stop and think just how blessed we all are to be saved by Jesus and by His love running red for us on the cross. The lyrics are as follows:

First verse: “There’s a place where mercy reigns and never dies. There’s a place where streams of grace. Flow deep and wide. Where all the love I’ve ever found. Comes like a flood. Comes flowing down. At the cross, at the cross. I surrender my life. I’m in awe of you. I’m in awe of you. Where your love ran red. And my sin washed white. I owe all to you. I owe all to you, Jesus.”
His mercy reigns forever. Thankfully it never dies. Only when we know Jesus and His love for us to we experience His never-ending grace and mercy. When you feel overwhelmed by God it is often a feeling that you can’t fully express, because you feel love, unlike any other and peace that surpasses all human understanding. His love comes flowing down at unexpected times when we need it the most. At the cross is where we can surrender our lives and be in awe of Him. We can surrender our lives to Him. Who wouldn’t be in shock and awe of God’s love when we finally get a glimpse of what it truly feels like. We’re loved by the king of kings, so feeling overwhelmed and in awe is only natural. His love ran red when He bled for us on the cross to take away our sins and to save us from eternity in Hell. His love ran red and our sins washed white. How can we not be in awe of Him because of the ultimate sacrifice He made for us?
Second verse: “There’s a place where sin and shame are powerless. Where my heart has peace with God. And forgiveness. Where all the love I’ve ever found. Comes like a flood. Comes flowing down. At the cross, at the cross. I surrender my life. I’m in awe of you. I’m in awe of you. Where your love ran red. And my sin washed white. I owe all to you. I owe all to you.”
How often do we really stop and think that we’re in a place where we can come to God? Do we realize how big of an honor and privilege we have in front of us? With God sin and shame are powerless. You can find peace with God no matter where you are in your life. Forgiveness is the greatest gift He could ever give. We owe all to Him because of His ultimate sacrifice. When His love ran red for us, our sin washed white and all of our past sins were wiped clean off the map. We are blank slates because of His sacrifice.
Bridge: “Here my hope is found. Here on holy ground. Here I bow down. Here I bow down. Here arms open wide. Here you save my life. Here I bow down. Here I bow. Chorus: At the cross, at the cross. I surrender my life. I’m in awe of you. I’m in awe of you. Where your love ran red. And my sin washed white. I owe all to you. I owe all to you. I owe all to you. I owe all to you, Jesus, Jesus. Your love ran red. Your love ran red. “
God’s arms are always open wide in order for us to receive Him into our lives and for Him to change our lives. But we have to be willing to receive what He has planned for us in our lives. He saved our lives so why not let Him have the controls over our lives? When we try to control everything in life, we give ourselves unneeded stress. None of that stress is worth it. Whatever we are stressing about, we can give it to God and ask Him to help us live with peace in our hearts. We can surrender our lives at any time and we can even surrender to God daily. In fact, it is a good idea to practice daily surrender unto Him, because only then will we find true peace that we deserve. Why carry all of our burdens when we can turn them all over to Him. We should be worshiping Him and being in complete awe of Him like the song says, instead of worrying about our day to day life. Find the time to get to know Him again and He will put that awe and peace into your life, your soul and mind and your heart. Seek Him and you will find Him.
