We Are Ohio Wall of Shame<\/strong>Falsehoods, Deception, & Bus Tours to Nowhere<\/em>A busy week for independent fact checkers has led to more bad news for We Are Ohio and liberal activists who oppose the fair and reasonable reforms championed by Issue 2.It\u2019s a fulltime job keeping Ohioans informed with the facts on Issue 2. The Ohio Republican Party is glad that independent news outlets such as\u00a0The Columbus Dispatch<\/em>,\u00a0The Plain Dealer\u2019s PolitifactOhio<\/em>, and theNews-Register<\/em>\u00a0are assisting Building a Better Ohio with debunking the deceptive practices of We Are Ohio and union special interests.New Video: Beyond the Noise<\/strong>http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/GOPOhio#p\/u\/0\/Ic2aQqh4FNw<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ohio voters deserve the facts on Issue 2, not the noise.\u00a0 The Ohio Republican Party\u2019s new web ad \u201cBeyond the Noise\u201d provides a strong dose of truth about what a\u00a0YES VOTE<\/strong>\u00a0on Issue 2 really means for Ohio.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We Are Ohio Lies Debunked<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two analyses by PolitifactOhio found We Are Ohio\u2019s ads regarding staffing levels for nurses<\/p>\n

and politician loophole exemptions to be\u00a0\u201cmostly false.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0According to Politifact: Issue 2 affects \u201conly a tiny fraction of Ohio nurses are public employees\u201d and \u201ca listener knowing those critical facts would have a different impression of the claim.\u201d\u00a0The Columbus Dispatch<\/em>\u00a0notes<\/a>\u00a0that the nurse featured in the ad already works for a hospital facility that uses the staffing reforms in Issue 2, and \u201cthe group runs into a problem in that there\u2019s nothing in Senate Bill 5 that mandates a reduction in staffing levels.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second\u00a0analysis<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Politifact.com<\/a>\u00a0finds that We Are Ohio blatantly lied about its claim that politicians \u201cexploited a loophole exempting themselves\u201d from the reforms of Issue 2.\u00a0The ad \u201cleaves out important details that would give a different impression. Those details include that lawmakers have long been exempt from Ohio\u2019s collective bargaining law, that they already pay the same percentages for medical and pension benefits as SB 5 would require and that their wage is set by statute.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bus Tour to Hypocrisy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Issue 2 fairly calls upon government employees to pay at least 15 percent of the cost of their<\/p>\n

health insurance premium and ends a union demand that forces Ohio taxpayers to pay a public employee\u2019s 10 percent pension contribution \u2013 on top of the 14 percent employer share.\u00a0Every community visited by the Issue 2 Bus Tour has the potential to save significant taxpayer dollars through these reforms.<\/p>\n

Take for example\u00a0Cincinnati,<\/strong>\u00a0where\u00a0<\/strong>all city employees, along with police and fire, pay\u00a0just 5%<\/strong>\u00a0of their health insurance premium.\u00a0Or\u00a0Dayton<\/strong>, where many\u00a0<\/strong>city employees, along with police and fire, pay\u00a0only 11%<\/strong>\u00a0toward their health care.\u00a0In\u00a0Cleveland<\/strong>, some city employees pay\u00a0nothing<\/strong>\u00a0for health care.\u00a0Most city workers pay just $1,250 a year on average for a family health care plan, while Ohio families pay an average of more than $4,100 annually.\u00a0The status quo isn\u2019t fair to Ohio taxpayers, especially when so many of our families are being forced to do more with less during the Great Obama Recession.<\/p>\n

Identifying Misleading Assertions by Opponents of Issue 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ohioans deserve the truth when it comes to the reasonable reforms associated with Issue<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Building a Better Ohio is fighting to set the record straight on the outright falsehoods and misleading assertions being perpetuated by opponents of Senate Bill 5. \u00a0Recently, the\u00a0Columbus Dispatch<\/em>\u00a0ran acorrection<\/a>\u00a0due to misleading information provided by a person featured in We Are Ohio\u2019s first television ad. \u00a0\u00a0Doug Stern falsely informed\u00a0the paper<\/a>\u00a0that as a Cincinnati employee he pays 20 percent toward his health-care premiums. \u00a0The\u00a0Dispatch<\/em>\u00a0took the liberty of correcting the record to reflect that Stern and other employees in his department actually \u201cpay 5 percent of their health-insurance premiums.\u201d<\/p>\n

All Ohioans are asking for with respect to Issue 2 is the facts.\u00a0 Voting YES on Issue 2 will not only provide our local governments with the necessary tools and resources they need to improve education and quality of life, but it will also send a message that the deceptive practices of We Are Ohio will not be tolerated.\u00a0Vote YES on Issue 2.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
