(COLUMBUS,OH) -Ohioabortions have reached an all-time low,
\ndeclining for the tenth consecutive year, according to the latest report
\nreleased by the Ohio Department of Health.
\nThe 2010 Abortion Report revealed a decrease of approximately
\n600 abortions from 2009 for a state total of 28,123 abortions performed
\nin 2010.<\/p>\n

The new statistics show that abortions inOhiohave
\ndeclined a total of 26% since the year 2000.\u00a0 Since 1982,
\nwhen reported abortions peaked, the number of abortions in
\nOhiohas decreased by nearly 40%.<\/p>\n

“During the past decade, more and more women and families chose life inOhio,”
\nOhio Right to Life Executive Director Mike Gonidakis said.
\n“While we will not rest until the number of reported abortions is zero,
\neach year these statistics reaffirm our statewide pro-life strategies
\nwhich focus on supporting young women through our pregnancy centers,
\npromoting adoption and identifying common sense legislative
\nsolutions to end abortion.\u00a0 Moms are being protected, more babies are alive
\ntoday and we can all agree that this is good public policy,” said Gonidakis.<\/p>\n

The 2010 Ohio Abortion Report reports shows that of all abortions:<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The majority occur in the metropolitan areas of
\nCuyahogaCountyat 36.8%,
\nFranklinat 19.2%, and
\nHamilton at 17.8%;<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The majority are performed on women younger
\nthan 24 years old;<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 37.1% are performed upon black women
\n(while only 12.2% of the population is black);<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 56.6% occur during the first 9 weeks of gestation; and,<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 83% are performed upon women who are unmarried.<\/p>\n

“Ohio Right to Life will continue enacting a targeted, truthful and
\ncompassionate educational approach for young women and men
\nto combat the manipulative marketing campaigns of Planned
\nParenthood,” said Gonidakis.<\/p>\n

“In July, Governor John Kasich signed our late-term abortion ban.<\/p>\n

Had this law been enacted last year, up to 629 more babies could be
\nalive inOhiotoday.\u00a0 No longer will babies who can live outside their
\nmother’s womb be put to death inOhio,” said Gonidakis.<\/p>\n
