Bev Perdue\u00a0from North Carolina said (you&#8217;ll \u00a0recall she said we should &#8220;suspend elections for 2 years&#8221; also posted on DrudgeReport.com yesterday) I had to get it to you as soon as I recalled the item. \u00a0Hey, I&#8217;m gettin&#8217; old. \u00a0Wha&#8217;da&#8217;spect? \u00a0Better late than never, aye? \u00a0BTW, this doesn&#8217;t come from a conservative web site. \u00a0The New Republic, who published Peter Orszag&#8217;s article that is calling for less democracy, is an extremely left-winged, liberal, commie web site! \u00a0Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay left! \u00a0<strong>\u25ac \u00a0Donna Calvin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>:~:~:~:<\/p>\n<h1>Too Much of a Good Thing<\/h1>\n<div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2>Why we need less democracy.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<h3>Peter Orszag<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tnr.com\/sites\/default\/sites\/244\/imagecache\/detail_page\/less%20democracy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/div>\n<p>In an 1814 letter to John Taylor, John Adams wrote that \u201cthere never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.\u201d That may read today like an overstatement, but it is certainly true that our democracy finds itself facing a deep challenge: During my recent stint in the Obama administration as director of the Office of Management and Budget, it was clear to me that the country\u2019s political polarization was growing worse\u2014harming Washington\u2019s ability to do the basic, necessary work of governing. If you need confirmation of this, look no further than the recent debt-limit debacle, which clearly showed that we are becoming two nations governed by a single Congress\u2014and that paralyzing gridlock is the result.<\/p>\n<p>So what to do? To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions.
