\nMotive Unclear In Attack By Group Of Teens On 16th Street Mall<\/strong><\/h1>\n


\n<\/strong><\/span>DENVER (CBS4) \u2013 Police are asking for the public\u2019s help tracking down a large group of violent teenagers.<\/p>\n

The 16th Street Mall is a pedestrian and transit mall in Denver, Colorado. The mall, 1.25 miles (2 kilometers) long, runs along 16th Street in downtown Denver, from Wewatta Street (at Union Station) to the intersection of 16th Avenue and Broadway (at Civic Center Station). It is home to over 300 locally owned\/chain stores, over 50 restaurants, and the Denver Pavilions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

They say 10 to 15 young people \u2014 described as black or Hispanic and both male and female \u2014 attacked four white men on the 16th Street Mall at about 10:45 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Denver police say the men were standing on the mall near Arapahoe when they were approached by the group. After a conversation, the group turned violent and they attacked the men.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the attacks could have been gang related or racially motivated.<\/p>\n

In 2009 a similar series of attacks took place near downtown, on the 16th Street Mall and in surrounding areas. The victims were usually white or Hispanic and the suspects were black. Surveillance video captured one of the attacks on camera.<\/p>\n

Many of those arrested in connection with the assaults were known to have ties with street gangs. Police said some or all of those attacks may have a kind of gang initation.<\/p>\n

Police will confirm that in this weekend\u2019s case the victims were not robbed, which narrows down the list of motives somewhat.<\/p>\n
