STANDARD & POOR\u2019S DOWNGRADES U.S. CREDIT RATING FOR FIRST TIME IN HISTORY<\/h1>\n

Sadly, the fears have been confirmed. Standard & Poor\u2018s has downgraded the United States\u2019 credit rating for the first time in the history of the ratings.<\/p>\n

\n

According to AP, the credit rating agency says that it is cutting the country\u2019s top AAA rating by one notch to AA+. On Friday evening S&P said that the debt bill recently passed by Congress was not enough to stabilize the nation\u2019s debt crisis.<\/p>\n

AP also reports that a source familiar with the situation said that the Obama administration believes S&P\u2019s analysis contained \u201cdeep and fundamental flaws.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the worst might be yet to come.\u00a0The Wall Street Journal<\/a>\u00a0published the following press release from S&P that claims the rating agency could be downgrading the U.S.\u00a0yet again<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0AA<\/strong>. The reason? S&P\u2019s statement says the downgrade reflects \u201cour view that the effectiveness,\u00a0stability, and predictability of American policymaking and political\u00a0institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic challenges\u00a0to a degree more than we envisioned when we assigned a negative outlook to the\u00a0rating on April 18, 2011:\u201d<\/p>\n
