PHILADELPHIA (CBS) \u2013<\/em> Eating chicken parts \u2013 or, more specifically, chicken wings \u2013 could shrink your baby\u2019s man parts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At least, that\u2019s what PETA is alleging<\/span> in advance of the National Buffalo Wing Festival.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to a letter from PETA to Drew Cerza<\/a>, the founder of the festival, \u201cThe latest scientific evidence shows that the sons of pregnant women who consume chicken are more likely to have smaller penises because of a chemical found in the birds\u2019 flesh.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cFindings published by the Study for Future Families showed that eating poultry during pregnancy may lead to smaller penis size <\/a>in male infants,\u201d the letter, from PETA\u2019s Lindsay Rajt, alleges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

So, in a city where buffalo wings are a gameday must and a wing-eating competition draws in thousands every year, we wanted to know: Just how true is PETA\u2019s latest claim?<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Women\u2019s Health Magazine<\/a>, the answer is not very. The magazine says that the chemical PETA is referring to is phthalate, and while research does show it causes shorter penises in boys born to moms with the highest level of phthalate exposure, poultry isn\u2019t even a top ranking offender on the list of foods containing the chemical.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Furthermore, Women\u2019s Health <\/a>reports that phthalates are in a lot of things we use every day, from plastic containers and personal care products to spices and many foods. Your best bet for limiting your exposure to them during pregnancy is to avoid using plastic containers or consuming very processed foods.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In conclusion, you can probably relax. Your little buffalo wing habit won\u2019t make anything else\u2026 well, little<\/em>.<\/p>\n
