Louisiana State Sen. Elbert Guillory sent shock waves throughout the nation when he enthusiastically joined the Republican Party after a long life as a Democrat.\u00a0 In a powerful video explaining his decision<\/a>, Guillory likened the Democrat Party to a plantation, claiming the \u201ccharity\u201d of the welfare state is nothing more than a tool to control.<\/p>\n

He appeared on the Glenn Beck Radio Program Thursday to speak more about his decision, saying he\u2019s been a fan of the program for years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was dissatisfied with the principles and the values of the party of disappointment,\u201d he began, \u201cthe Democrat Party in Louisiana.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guillory said he has watched the party moving further left on gun rights, abortion, prayer in schools, big government spending, and the family, but it was a shocking claim in the Senate that finally crossed a line.<\/p>\n

When he heard Democrats claiming that if you oppose Obamacare, you\u2019re a racist, Guillory said he couldn\u2019t believe it.\u00a0 His 103-year-old mother called him and said she didn\u2019t want him associated with \u201canything like this,\u201d despite the fact that she also has been a lifelong Democrat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the last straw,\u201d Guillory reflected.<\/p>\n

He has been called vile names and has been \u201ctaken to task\u201d by the Democrat \u201chierarchy\u201d in the wake of his comments, but Guillory said: \u201cI\u2019m very comfortable with who I am, doing what I\u2019m doing.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t hurt my feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Beck asks how Guillory thinks the cycle of people \u201ccontinuing to vote for the policies that are enslaving them and destroying their families\u201d can be broken, Guillory said it is all goes back to education.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to\u2026uplift the level of basic education, but we also have to do some political education, and convince people that [just] taking a few little handouts, just having a subsistence living\u2026that it will keep you on the plantation for the rest of your life,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s not a life.\u00a0 That\u2019s not living. It\u2019s not good enough. It\u2019s not acceptable.\u00a0 We have to educate our people\u2026You have to get off the plantation, the government plantation.\u201d<\/p>\n
