Calvin’s Commentary: For the time being, moral, decent Americans have spoken loudly and clearly and in huge numbers, enough to offset the baying voices of the sodomites who are after young boys in the Boy Scouts . We cannot stop our righteous and decent opposition to the sodomizing of our sons in the Boy Scouts. Please, if you have any shred of decency and morality left in your hearts, how can you refuse to take action on behalf of our sons! Don’t buy into the false argument that not allowing America’s young sons to be exposed to sodomites in the Boy Scouts on camping trips far away from home in dark and scary tents at midnight makes any sense whatsoever. Haven’t we seen enough of the sodomites in the Roman Catholic Church and in places like Penn State where Jerry Sandusky ruined the lives of a football icon, Coach Joe Paterno and scores of young men, to say nothing of the shame it brought to the entire city. So we decent parents have to do more than the highly organized, sexually motivated, well-funded sodomites. Write, call, fax, and organize like-minded parents in small groups in your church halls and homes, and make a louder cry for the protection of our sons than those who want to sodomize them! Wednesday – February 6, 2013 – Breaking News<\/strong> – The Boy Scouts of America has decided to delay its vote on a proposal to allow local troops to decide whether to allow openly gay members and leaders. The organization said it needs more time to get input from its members. The vote will now be held in May.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, along with comments from those outside the organization, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America\u2019s National Executive Board concluded that due to the complexity of this issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy,” the Scouts said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Until a vote is taken, it appears the organization will continue its ban on gay Scouts and Scout leaders.<\/strong>

Are the Boy Scouts Endangering Boys?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

To the shock and disappointment of many of us, the Boy Scouts of America\u00ae<\/span> released a statement on Monday (last week) indicating the possibility of changing its policy that prevents the participation of openly practicing homosexuals.<\/span><\/p>\n

In other words, the Boy Scouts of America\u00ae<\/span>, an organization that has historically required its members to take an oath to be “morally straight,” appears to now be favoring moral neutrality.<\/span>
\nKeep reading<\/a> to learn why I believe this decision puts boys in danger, why there’s no such thing as neutrality when it comes to morality\u2014and find out how you can contact the Boy Scouts<\/a> and ask them to continue creating safe, secure environments for their youth members.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to press reports, the 100-year-old organization’s board will meet next week at which time the matter will be debated and likely decided.<\/p>\n

In an official statement, the Scouts stated:<\/p>\n

This would mean there would no longer be any national policy regarding sexual orientation, and the chartered organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting would accept membership and select leaders consistent with each organization\u2019s mission, principles, or religious beliefs.\u00a0BSA members and parents would be able to choose a local unit that best meets the needs of their families<\/em>…<\/strong>The policy change under discussion would allow the religious, civic, or educational organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting to determine how to address this issue.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

In other words, the Boy Scouts of America, an organization\u00a0that has historically required its members to take an\u00a0oath to be “morally straight,” appears to now be favoring moral neutrality.<\/p>\n

Neutrality is often an attractive option, especially when the goal is to not offend. But in this case, I’m reminded of what the great humanitarian and political activist\u00a0Elie Wiesel once wrote about trying to remain neutral when it comes to moral affairs:<\/p>\n

We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere.<\/em><\/p>\n

At stake in this debate is not just the golden brand of the Boy Scouts but most importantly the character and safety of the boys involved.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I realize that what I\u2019m about to say might upset some people, but I hope we\u2019re mature enough to discuss such important issues in straightforward and even stark terms.<\/p>\n

My concern about the proposed change in the Boy Scouts has less to do with the idea of boys who identify as homosexuals and almost everything to do with the homosexual men who will be charged with leading and protecting the boys.<\/p>\n

I have a good friend who was abused by a homosexual Boy Scout leader when he was twelve years old. The abuse triggered a horrific series of events that sent the boy reeling. His life was nearly ruined. I realize that most homosexual males are not pedophiles but can we not face facts and ask why we would deliberately put a youngster in a heightened position of risk?\u00a0 Is it worth it? Of course not.<\/p>\n

One of the great tragedies of the last few decades has been the abuse of young children by religious leaders. Of course these cases are the exception and most priests and pastors are trustworthy.\u00a0 But one of the reasons the abuse occurred in the first place was because many of the involved clergy were homosexuals and the responsible governing bodies frequently have refused to acknowledge there\u2019s any correlation to child molestation, especially concerning boys.<\/p>\n

This subject has generated a significant amount of concern \u00a0and understandably so. My friend and Focus board member, Dr. Al Mohler, summed up the situation and the broader challenge to Christendom on his blog<\/a> last evening:<\/p>\n

Faithful Christians are left in the excruciatingly difficult position of maintaining fidelity to moral judgments revealed in the Bible while the culture around us races in the opposite direction. While the Boy Scouts use language like \u201cmorally straight,\u201d the church uses its own language of sin, grace, and obedience…The new policy to be adopted by the Boy Scouts of America represents a revolution in what that esteemed organization understands \u201cmorally straight\u201d to mean. We should not let that pass without taking notice of what that revolution will eventually bring about \u2014 nothing less than a reversal of what morality is understood to demand.<\/em><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s pray that the Boy Scouts of America will stand strong and resist the social and political pressures that are currently leaning into them with\u00a0great force.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll consider asking the Boy Scouts of America<\/a> to continue creating safe, secure environments for their youth members. Urge the group to maintain its current selection process for finding adult leaders. The people who will be voting on this issue need to hear affirmation of the historical foundations of scouting. They need to know people are with them.<\/p>\n

So for corporate America, the case has\u00a0 brought to the surface a difficult dilemma: Can companies fund an apple-pie organization like the Scouts without\u00a0 alienating gay customers, not to mention gay employees?<\/em>” Merrill Lynch & Co<\/span>.<\/strong> are reviewing its policy. Jim Finn, a spokesman for Chase Manhattan<\/em>,<\/strong><\/span> commented: “With the Supreme Court’s decision, it’s hard to justify the funding. Diversity is an important issue for our company and our employees, and the ruling doesn’t square with our own feeling about fairness.<\/em> Gregg Shields, spokesman for the BSA responded: “We are pleased that these companies chose to\u00a0fund the Boy Scouts and are sad to hear that they no longer will…we ask that people respect our private beliefs as much as we respect theirs.<\/em>” (Chase Manhattan<\/span><\/strong> later restored support when large religious organizations began closing their accounts.)<\/span><\/p>\n
