If you can get sued as a result of some chiseling freeloader who comes to your house and drinks to excess and then sues you saying it’s your fault<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> he got drunk and wrecked his car, or if someone eats pizza and wings delivered to you at your house from a local pizzeria place (and you didn’t even cook it) and gets food poisoning, is able to sue you because he simply ate it at your house, then I say it’s time to cancel Thanksgiving dinner, New Year’s Eve celebrations, Christmas, Kwanza party and even Hanukkah latkas as well. I have to say, this is one of the most absurd and mean-spirited lawsuits one could ever imagine being filed! Know what I say? Put the leech’s name on Facebook warning everyone to NEVER invite the sue-happy mooch to anyplace, anywhere, anytime, ever again! Super Bowl party lawsuits<\/h2>\n

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –<\/p>\n

When Jim Angleton throws a Super Bowl party, he wants it to be a winner. But a couple of years ago, a guest got into a post-game fender bender.<\/p>\n

Now, before kickoff, Jim has a game plan in place, which includes a call to his insurance agent.<\/p>\n

Jim’s got the right idea. The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association of America says it’s important for party hosts to understand the risks that go along with hosting a Super Bowl party.<\/p>\n

If there’s a fumble with food or alcohol, you could end up in serious legal trouble, leaving you responsible for things like lawyer’s fees, lost wages, medical bills, even wrongful death claims.<\/p>\n

Take food poisoning. It affects one in six Americans each year, and can easily land party goers in the emergency room.<\/p>\n

That goes for drinks, too. The American Bar Association says if there’s an alcohol related accident, party hosts can be held liable in most states and in other states, you can still be sued.<\/p>\n

According to Dick Semeredijian of the American Bar Association, “The argument they will make is that the social host knew, or should have known, of the level of intoxication of their guest when they left.”<\/p>\n

Bob Rusbuldt from The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association suggests, “You need to make sure that you’re adequately covered. Most trusted choice agents will tell you that $100,000 is not enough coverage. They usually recommend a minimum of $300,000.”<\/p>\n

Finally, stick with brands or restaurants you trust. Store and handle game day grub properly and consider not serving alcohol or, limiting the amount you serve.<\/p>\n

Dick Semerdjian cautions, “If someone can’t drive and everybody is intoxicated and there’s no way to get that person home please call a cab.”<\/p>\n

It’s because Jim plays by these rules that he can relax and enjoy the big game.<\/p>\n

According to Jim, “We sleep better at night, and we actually have a good feeling that we’ve done everything that we possibly can to mitigate liability.”<\/p>\n
