Walmart responds to ‘suspended ammo’ story<\/h1>\n

Report states retail giant cutting orders, anticipating gun control<\/h2>\n

The blogosphere has exploded with outrage in response to news that Walmart is suspending ammunition sales in anticipation of the Obama administration\u2019s gun-control recommendations to Congress \u2013 but the retail giant tells WND the reports aren\u2019t true.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat information is inaccurate,\u201d said Ashley Hardie, a spokeswoman located at Walmart\u2019s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.<\/p>\n

WND then asked whether the retail chain is cutting back on orders of ammunition.<\/div>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Hardie said. \u201cWe\u2019re continuing to serve our customers as we have in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said Walmart\u2019s ammunition sales policy has not changed, even amid talk of gun-control legislation in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

The uproar began when the InvestmentWatch blog posted a story headlined, \u201cBreaking & confirmed: Walmart is not going to order any more ammo.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

CNS News cited the report, and talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh mentioned it during his Monday show<\/a>. CNS has since removed the report from its own site.<\/p>\n

According to the InvestmentWatch report, a man claimed to have visited his local Walmart and noticed the store was \u201cout of almost every kind of ammo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe manager I talked to said they had not heard anything, but she tried to order some .223 as I was standing there. She said the order was being rejected by the corporate office. Said she had never had that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cShe called corporate as I was standing there. And was told this, \u2018As of right now Walmart is not going to be making any new orders of ammo because of the upcoming decision on the Second Amendment.\u2019 Said, \u2018As of right now we are unsure of what new legislation might be coming, and because of this, we are suspending new orders. We will continue to sell what is already in stock in stores and at our distribution centers, but any new orders will not be shipped until the issue is resolved.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cSo after they run out, there will be no restocking until Obama makes his decision. How\u2019s that change working out for you now?\u201d<\/p>\n

The InvestmentWatch posting also included an audio recording which was purportedly taken as a man called Walmart\u2019s customer service line.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to my local Walmart to go get some ammunition, and they said they were out,\u201d the caller said. \u201cI was looking for .223. Are you all still going to be selling ammunition? The lady seemed confused about whether they were going to get any more in stock.\u201d<\/p>\n

The person claiming to be a Walmart representative can be heard saying, \u201cYou know, there is going to be a new policy change, according to the federal gun control act, the new law that the president\u2019s getting ready to enact.\u201d<\/p>\n

The caller then asked, \u201cWell, you don\u2019t have any idea what that says, do you? Is that saying you\u2019re no longer going to carry ammunition?\u201d<\/p>\n

The man responded, \u201cTo be honest with you, I don\u2019t know what the policy is going to be, but I know they, but I was told they\u2019re going to be reviewing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

WND has not been able to verify whether the man on the call was, in fact, a customer service representative for Walmart.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, WND reader Sam Singleton said his local Walmart in Myrtle Beach, S.C., has a very short supply of ammunition. According to Singleton, the store claimed it had received a letter from corporate headquarters on the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe clerk said they only had what was left on the shelf and that there was a \u2018hard lock\u2019 on the reorders. She said they hadn\u2019t been getting any replenishment and that just today the store had received a letter from the corporate office stating that they would not be able to order any replenishment of ammunition, other than some for shotguns.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said they were not stocking anything that could be used in an \u2018assault-type rifle.\u2019 I said, \u2018This is ammunition I use for practice,\u2019 and she said they were just told there was a \u2018hard lock\u2019 on ammo sales.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another WND reader, Patrick Clemons, reported a similar experience today after he visited the Walmart in Folsom, Calif.<\/p>\n
