Obama supporter met in White House before GOP talent purge<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>North Carolina is a must-win for President Obama, and he\u2019s getting a lot of help from supporters \u2013 in Boston.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the run-up to the Democratic National Convention, Boston-based Greater Media Inc. neutralized the conservative line-up of talk radio show hosts it inherited when it bought top-rated Charlotte station WBT-AM (1110) four years ago.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

First it ousted Rush Limbaugh sub Jason Lewis from the prime afternoon drive-time slot. Then it jettisoned popular local conservative Vince Coakley, replacing him with a liberal duo who routinely lampoon GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and even Rush Limbaugh, who precedes them in the noon-to-3 p.m. slot.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t be surprised if they pulled Limbaugh,\u201d Coakley told WND, perhaps even before the election. He called the moves baffling in light of WBT\u2019s overwhelmingly conservative audience.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Most recently, management unceremoniously told popular morning personality Keith Larson, a limited-government libertarian, that his contract would not be renewed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Local bloggers and longtime listeners smell a conspiracy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cGreat timing, drawing back from (conservative) politics and all, right when the DNC is slated to hit town,\u201d said Mark Pellin of PunditHouse.com, a conservative blog for Charlotte news and politics.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He says it looks like \u201ca calculated move on the station\u2019s part to curry favor with the left.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Added Charlotte resident Marty Allen, who\u2019s been listening to WBT since 1988: \u201cThey (are) trying to be \u2018politically correct\u2019 for the DNC.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Greater Media bought WBT, which has long held the No. 1 position for news and talk in Charlotte, from Lincoln Financial Media in January 2008.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The new station owners say they are simply trying to get away from straight politics \u2013 the station\u2019s bread-and-butter for years \u2013 and move to something \u201ca lot more fun.\u201d They explain that the lighter fare will \u201cappeal to a wider audience.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

However, bringing in Brad Krantz, the more liberal half of \u201cThe Brad & Britt Show,\u201d is hardly an apolitical move.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Krantz routinely parrots Democrat talking points. His parodies of Limbaugh \u2013 including tasteless references to the talk radio king\u2019s past addiction to pain-killers \u2013 have offended many listeners, who have called into the station to complain. So far during the convention, Krantz has made appearances with union workers and other Democrat activists.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There appears to be more to the story than Greater Media is telling.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

WND has learned that before the recent purge, Greater Media CEO Peter Smyth met with Obama administration officials in the White House to discuss \u201cpolicy ideas.\u201d The meeting, which lasted five hours, took place in March.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI was invited to the White House,\u201d Smyth said. \u201cI was honored to be asked to participate in one small part of the policy-making process.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Smyth, who federal records show gives more to Democrats than Republicans, says he agrees with the president\u2019s agenda to \u201creinvent our country.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

WND has also learned that a key player in Greater Media operations \u2013 vice president Ellen J. Rubin \u2013 is a major Democrat activis<\/span>t who supports the leftist group Moveon.org <\/span><\/strong>and the Democratic National Committee, which is running the convention in Charlotte.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, Rubin, a Berkeley alumna, has contributed a total of more than $5,650 to Obama\u2019s campaigns in 2008 and 2012.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
