As WBEZ reports, while some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gun fire in Chicago during that time, based on Department of Defense and FBI data. Meanwhile, recently a 100% pro-life conservative Republican from Missouri, Congressman Todd Akin, who is running for the US Senate, said something really stupid the other day referring to \u201clegitimate rape\u201d claiming an old wives tale to be true that raped women can’t get pregnant, and it is making the 24\/7 news media’s headlines non-stop. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Because the communists in the news media do every thing in their power to make sure that the communist Democratic Party candidates are viewed favorably and they don’t want you to know about Obama’s numerous goofs, gaffs, guffaws, and bad governing policies that are truly serious errors with repercussions on your wallet and life, like what’s going on with the economy collapsing because of his decisions. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

On the less consequential side, do you recall (if you’re my age, you might) the brouhaha when Dan Quayle wrote potato and added an \u201ce\u201d to the end \u2013 an antiquated spelling of the word \u2013 was recanted over and over ad nauseaum \u2013 and was repeated by every commie lib forever after. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In 30 minutes 13 shot, 6 more people shot in overnight shootings across Chicago <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nineteen people were shot across the South and West sides from Thursday evening through early Friday morning — 13 of them wounded over a 30-minute period, authorities say.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The overnight shootings peaked between 9:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. That’s when eight people, many of them teens, were shot at 79th Street and Essex Avenue about 9:30 p.m.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then two men were wounded in the Ida B. Wells \/ Darrow Homes complex at about 9:25 p.m., police said. The men, 27 and 33, were shot in the 600 block of East 37th Street and taken to the University of Chicago Hospitals, police said. The younger man was shot in the head and the other in the right arm, Gaines said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Around the same time, two other men were wounded in the arms in a drive-by shooting in the 2900 block of West 39th Place in the Brighton Park neighborhood.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

About 15 minutes later, a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to Jackson Park Hospital from the 7200 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, Gaines said. He was treated and released. The man told police he was talking on his phone when he heard a single shot and realized he was wounded.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier Thursday evening, four men were wounded in a shooting in the Little Village neighborhood about 5:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They were walking in the 3200 block of South Kedzie Avenue when at least one person inside a vehicle with three others opened fire, police said, hitting the group. Three 19-year-olds and a 22-year-old were wounded.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Just after midnight, a 17-year-old was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said. He was walking in the 7100 block of South Vincennes Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood when someone inside a passing car opened fire, police said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another 17-year-old was shot after 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw Street in the Homan Square neighborhood. He’s in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. Someone walked to him and started shooting, police said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In campaign remarks yesterday at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, Illinois, President Barack Obama praised his adopted city, where he lived before becoming president of the United States. “Chicago is an example of what makes this country great,” Obama said. His audience applauded. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

President Obama’s proof for his assertion? The donors in the room, who had given to his reelection campaign. “Witness this room,” Obama said. And he elaborated: “[W]e’ve got everything we need to make things work here in America. We still have the best workers in the world. (Applause.) We’ve still got the best entrepreneurs in the world. We’ve got the best colleges, the best universities, the best scientists, the best researchers. We’re a young nation, and we’ve got the greatest diversity of talent and ingenuity from every corner of the globe.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But what President Obama did not address is Chicago’s homicide rate, one of the highest in the nation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“[M]ore Chicago residents — 228 — have been killed so far this year in the city than the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan – 144 — over the same period,” the Huffington Post noted in June.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

And the number of deaths is up 35 percent over the same period last year.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

There was a time it was called “gangland” Chicago and maybe that time has returned.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
