How I became George Obama’s ‘brother’<\/span>

A few days ago I received a call from a man I recently met named George.\u00a0 He was a bit flustered, and soon informed me that his young son was sick with a chest condition.\u00a0 He pleaded with me to send him $1,000 to cover the medical bills.\u00a0 Since George was at the hospital I asked him to let me speak to a nurse, and she confirmed that George\u2019s son was indeed ill.\u00a0 So I agreed to send George the money through Western Union.\u00a0 He was profusely grateful.\u00a0 But before I hung up I asked George, \u201cWhy are you coming to me?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI have no one else to ask.\u201d\u00a0 Then he said something that astounded me, \u201cDinesh, you are like a brother to me.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

George Obama lives on US$1 a month in a hut in a slum \u201cneighborhood.\u201d George Obama said he met his half brother Barack Obama once for a very short time. D\u2019Souza noted the man who earns $4 million p.a. and professes to be his \u201cbrother\u2019s keeper\u201d in public speeches, has failed to lift a finger for his half brother. Actually, George has a real life brother who just happens to be the president of the United States.\u00a0 (George Obama is the youngest of eight children sired by Barack Obama Sr.)\u00a0 George\u2019s brother is a multimillionaire and the most powerful man in the world.\u00a0 Moreover, George\u2019s brother has framed his re-election campaign around the \u201cfair share\u201d theme that we owe obligations to those who are less fortunate.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One of Obama\u2019s favorite phrases comes right out of the Bible: \u201cWe are our brother\u2019s keeper.\u201d\u00a0 Yet he has not contributed a penny to help his own brother. And evidently George does not believe, even in times of emergency, that he can turn to his brother in the White House for help.<\/p>\n

So much for spreading the wealth around.<\/p>\n

Obama\u2019s refusal to help George is especially surprising because George doesn\u2019t just live in American-style poverty but rather in Third World poverty.\u00a0 He lives in a shanty in the Huruma slum in Nairobi.\u00a0 He gets by on a few dollars a month.\u00a0 Obama also has an aunt named Hawa Auma, his father\u2019s sister, who ekes out a living selling coal on the streets of a small village in Kenya.\u00a0 She says she would like to have her teeth fixed, but she cannot afford it.\u00a0 Obama hasn\u2019t offered to help her either.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s going on here?\u00a0 Why is President Obama so hesitant to help family members in need?<\/p>\n

A couple of years ago, George teamed up with a British journalist Damien Lewis and the two of them published George\u2019s story in a book called “Homeland.” Yet according to Lewis, shortly before the book\u2019s publication in America, the publisher Simon & Schuster decided to shred the entire print run, more than 20,000 copies.\u00a0 Lewis tried unsuccessfully to get an explanation from Simon & Schuster but to no avail.\u00a0 He now suspects that the White House convinced Simon & Schuster that George\u2019s story might prove embarrassing to the president.<\/p>\n

George’s father died when he was barely six months old, and he spent his infant years growing up in his mother Jael’s extended family. When George was aged six his beautiful and spirited mother met and married a French aid worker, called Christian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In 2010, George also applied for a visa to come to the United States and was refused.\u00a0\u00a0 While George confesses that in his younger years he was a delinquent, he has never been convicted of any crime.\u00a0 Moreover, he has a very good reason to visit the United States: his mother Jael Otieno lives in Atlanta.\u00a0 So why would the U. S. embassy in Nairobi refuse a tourist visa to the brother of the president who just wants to spend time with his mother?<\/p>\n

In the past few days, an article has been circulating on the web that depicts George as a social undesirable.\u00a0 First published in the London Daily Mail, the article portrays George as a habitual drunk and philanderer.\u00a0 I spent a day with George this past February while interviewing him for my documentary film 2016: Obama\u2019s America.\u00a0 I can attest that George is not an innocent.\u00a0 If he had been, he would not have survived life in the Huruma slum.\u00a0 Yes, George is street smart and cunning and I did smell alcohol on his breath.<\/p>\n

But so what?\u00a0 George may be a drinker and a skirt-chaser but, as becomes clear from his book, he is also a survivor.\u00a0 He has overcome his past as a gang-member and petty thief and now works as the organizer of a slum soccer league.\u00a0 He is trying to uplift himself, and he is trying to help slum kids aspire to a better life.\u00a0\u00a0 On balance, Lewis assures me, \u201cGeorge is not a bad guy.\u00a0 He is on the side of the angels.\u201d<\/p>\n

But even if Lewis is wrong, and George exhibits some harmful cultural pathologies, the liberal argument\u2014one that Obama himself makes in his book “The Audacity of Hope” \u2014 is that the cultural pathologies of the poor are themselves the product of social disadvantage.<\/p>\n

Barack Obama Jr. first met George in 1987, when George was five years old.\u00a0 He met George again in 2006 when he visited Kenya as a U.S. Senator from Illinois; George was then in his early twenties.\u00a0 Had Obama helped George along the way, perhaps this young man would not have ended up dirt-poor and living such a degraded life.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the real story here?\u00a0 Where\u2019s George Obama\u2019s \u201cfair share\u201d?\u00a0 George\u2019s tragic situation exposes President Obama as a hypocrite.\u00a0 Here is a man who demands that others pay higher taxes to help the poor\u2014even poor people who are not related to them\u2014while Obama himself refuses to help a close relative like George.<\/p>\n

Yet I believe there is a deeper explanation that goes beyond hypocrisy for why Obama wants nothing to do with George.\u00a0\u00a0 After all, it would cost Obama so little to raise George out of poverty, and yet he won\u2019t do it.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t mere negligence; it suggests an active animus.\u00a0\u00a0 The reason for that animus emerges in George\u2019s book and also in my interview with George in the film 2016.\u00a0 In that interview, George rejects the anti-colonial philosophy that was espoused by Barack Obama Sr.\u00a0\u00a0 This is the \u201cdream from my father\u201d that President Obama celebrates in his own autobiography.<\/p>\n

From the record of their lives and writings, it\u2019s clear that Barack Obama Sr. and Barack Obama Jr. both share the anti-colonial view that blames Western colonial exploitation for the poverty and suffering of the Third World.\u00a0 Yet George doesn\u2019t buy it.\u00a0 He observes that at the time of its independence in the early 1960s \u201cKenya was on an economic par with Malaysia or Singapore.\u00a0\u00a0 Look where we are now, and where they are.\u00a0 They\u2019re practically developed and industrialized, while Kenya is still a basket case.\u201d George believes that poor countries should take responsibility for their own situation.\u00a0 \u201cWhat\u2019s our excuse for failure?\u00a0 We don\u2019t have one.\u00a0 We\u2019ve only got ourselves to blame.\u201d<\/p>\n

Obama is great at fundraising — for himself<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Incredible though it seems, George Obama is, within the context of his own society, a conservative.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t worship at the shrine of Barack Obama Sr. and he espouses an ideology diametrically opposed to that of his father and his famous brother.\u00a0 George has experienced first-hand the empty rhetoric of the two Baracks, and he rejects it based on his actual experience of Third World poverty.<\/p>\n

No wonder President Obama despises George, doesn\u2019t want him around, doesn\u2019t care to hear George\u2019s views circulated in America, and won\u2019t lift a finger to help him even when George\u2019s son is in the hospital.<\/p>\n

So that\u2019s why George Obama felt he had to call me.\u00a0 He had no one else to call.\u00a0 He reached out to me in his time of need because he felt he couldn\u2019t call on his real life sibling living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.<\/p>\n

If this is how Obama who occupies this White House treats his own relatives in Kenya, why do the American people believe this occupier will treat them any better? Vote him GONE this November, 2012!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

That\u2019s how I got to be, if only metaphorically and for a short time, George Obama\u2019s \u201cbrother.\u201d<\/p>\n
