A record number of openly gay candidates are running for Congress.<\/p>\n

The contenders all say that their sexual orientation is pretty much a nonissue on the campaign trail, Roll Call\u2019s Joshua Miller reports.<\/p>\n

Other openly gay challenger candidates with a real shot of coming to Congress include:
\nSean Patrick Maloney (D)<\/span>, taking on freshman Rep.\u00a0Nan Hayworth<\/a>\u00a0(R) in New York\u2019s 18th district;
\nMark Pocan (D)<\/span>, running in Wisconsin\u2019s open 2nd district;
\nMark Takano (D)<\/span>, running for California\u2019s new 41st district; and
\nRichard Tisei (R)<\/span>, taking on Rep.\u00a0John Tierney<\/a>\u00a0(D) in Massachusetts\u2019 6th district.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are at least four other openly gay Congressional candidates this year, according to a count from the pro-LGBT-equality Human Rights Campaign, but all are long shots in states such as Idaho.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
