dear ol’ Dad.” It could also be sung, “I want a boy, just like the boy, that married my dear Mom.” — Because that is what 99% of the young women who marry, marry!

Fathers take note of this because you one day will have sitting at your Thanksgiving dinner table and every other holiday, including all the Father’s Days from now until your expiration date, a man who closely resembles you – your son-in-law(s).

Your daughter may think that she is going to pick someone who is far better than you (every person has their god-fearing man. He was devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and he behaved like a god-fearing man.

I was very fortunate he was a devoted Christian. He made a great father. He was an explicitly Christian with a fair sense of high moral values. He never hid his faith from anyone. For example, we prayed in restaurants before every meal.

He lived by a Christian moral code of ethics, even when it was risky. When the sand and gravel company he worked for began cheating on the weights of how much product was on the truck as compared with the invoice, he refused to allow the incorrect weight to be put on his invoice tickets. He nearly lost his job over that. Folks, he didn’t have a union backing him. My mother and him spent many hours in prayer over that. Fortunately, my dad didn’t lose his job, but he obeyed God, rather than man, like Peter said we must in the Book of Acts, regardless of the cost. (Acts 5:29)

<a LORD THY GOD

My dad wasn’t a rich man. He never made more than $3,000 in a year. Nevertheless, every Sunday, the tithe went into the church’s envelop because he knew that it was going to serve God. He told me many times that if he were a rich man, he wouldn’t spend his money on big houses, boats, and expensive automobiles. He would give it to poor people who needed it.

He didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk. (Matthew 6:7, James 1:22-25)

When a story would appear in the local newspaper about an unfortunate person, my parents would always send cash in an envelop to the person mentioned in the story. Never a check. Checks cost money to write and they didn’t waste a cent.

My dad was not a demonstrative man as far as hugs and kisses goes, he was of German descent, but his best trait was that he loved. Not with hugs and kisses, but with deeds and actions. (Matthew 6:6,16) Not only did he give to strangers in need, he gave to every relative who needed aid. When my aunt asked him to put a bathroom inside her house, he did. He paid for it. There was a time, even in big cities like Cleveland, Detroit, Toledo, Columbus, etc., houses built on city-sized postage stamp lots didn’t have indoor plumbing!

My dad went to work everyday at a very hard job. [1 Timothy 5:8] But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

When I was very young he drove a truck hauling coal for a living. It was a dirty job and a very hard one. They not only hauled coal, they had to wrap dirty coal into packages for those who could afford to buy packaged coal. Eventually, gas furnaces replaced coal and he was without a job for a long while. He looked towards and sought God in prayer and finally got a job driving for a sand and gravel company.

My dad was a man filled with skills. It didn’t come from schooling, he only had a sixth-grade education. I know his wisdom came from God and through the Holy Spirit. (Proverbs 2:6) My dad fixed things – anything that broke, he fixed it. We didn’t have a lot of money to buy new things so he fixed whatever broke and kept it running.

My family, my mom, dad, my 10-year older sister and I lived upstairs from my grandmother (which meant my dad lived upstairs from his mother-in-law, his father-in-law and my unmarried, retarded aunt). That meant that all summer my dad spent planting and transplanting his mother-in-law’s flowers! The man must have had the patience of Job! Why did he do it? Because he was a servant to those around him. He respected his elders. [Exodus 20:12] Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. – Additional Scriptures – Proverbs 23:22, Proverbs 1:8; Ephesians 6:1)

By the time my grandparents died when I was eleven, he and Mom had built, nail by nail, 2 x 4 by 2 x 4, shingle by shingle, a new house directly across the street on a lot my dad had traded an old alcoholic a bottle of whiskey for during the Great Depression. It was the typical bungalow of the 1950’s. To me, it was a palace! My dad took my retarded aunt in and she lived with us. Why? Because he knew it was the Christlike thing to do. Taking care of family comes before anything else and if a man doesn’t do it, he is worse than a heathen. [1 Timothy 5:8]

Some things my dad forced me to do! Things I didn’t like. Some I even hated!

<a [Proverbs 22:6] Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

After 1948 when we got our first TV set, the thing that I most remember about my dad was that when a religious program came on the radio nightly broadcasted from 7:45 PM to 8 PM, he forced (I mean that word, too) to shut off the TV and listen to that 15 minute program.

When he and my mom prayed every evening, I was forced to sit still and pray with them!

When he read a chapter in the Holy Bible every night, I was forced to sit still and listen to him read.

Every Sunday morning I was forced to go to church! Churches weren’t air conditioned then. It was crowded. People sat next to each other with arms touching as the ushers urged you to move in closer so one more could fit in the pew. A lot of people used to go to church back then! It was so hot in church, every summer Sunday it was not unusual for someone to faint. The ushers would come and carry the unconscious soul out into the hallway, refreshing them with cool water. Services weren’t shortened just because it was hot! God meant more to Christians back then than being entertained in plush padded theater seats with “April Air” humming and drumming away quietly blowing fresh, cooled air down from the ceiling vents.

When I say forced to go to church, I mean, if I didn’t get up, I knew a glass of cold water would be poured down upon me! And my mattress would still be wet at bedtime! I knew I had to get up and go, like it or not!

The last thing I recall about my dad were his last words to me, spoken just hours before he died. He said, “Donna, the only regret I have in life is that I didn’t love Jesus more.”

Well, Dad, I married a man a whole lot like you and today, he serves the Lord Jesus Christ and I know of no two other men who love Jesus more than you and he do.

You see, I married a man a whole lot like my dad – and I’m glad every day that I did.

Men, especially you fathers with young children, please know that the chances of your children marrying someone like you is strong to for sure!

Please remember this, fathers, how you behave will effect the lives of your children forever!

Be a Christian man! Be the kind of man you want your daughter to marry. Love your daughter. Be as gentle as a He continued that God wasn't important, wasn't real, and our parents just used God to impose restrictions on us because they were inadequate to parent effectively. I knew then I was going to be involved in a war and that I would have to be in Jesus Christ's Army. Even then, I knew the United States of America would cease to exist without the vast majority of its citizens voluntarily submitting to the Perfect and Good Laws of the Holy Bible. I am a woman who loves the Lord Jesus Christ. I am tired of seeing our LORD denigrated from the school house to the White House. I search the Internet for items that ought to serve as a warning to Americans and Christians all through America, but the nation seems to be sleeping. Wake up America! You are losing your freedoms, your children and your country. Wake up and help stop it!
["GET
