My looking to Jesus brings me joy and peace, but it is God\u2019s looking to Jesus<\/strong> [our Redeemer<\/strong>] which secures my salvation<\/strong> and that of all his elect, since it is impossible for our God to look at Christ, our bleeding Surety, and then to be angry with us for sins already punished in him. No, it is not left with us even to be saved by remembering the covenant. There is no linsey-woolsey (a coarse cloth made from linen interwoven with wool or cotton) here-not a single thread of the creature mars the fabric. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is not of man, neither by man, but of the Lord alone. We should remember the covenant, and we shall do it, through divine grace; but the hinge of our safety does not hang there – it is God\u2019s remembering us, not our remembering him; and hence the covenant is an everlasting covenant<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charles Haddon<\/strong> (C.H.<\/strong>) Spurgeon<\/strong> (19 June 1834 \u2013 31 January 1892) was a British Particular Baptist<\/a> preacher<\/a>. Spurgeon remains highly influential among Christians<\/a> of different denominations<\/a>, among whom he is known as the “Prince of Preachers”. He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist<\/a> tradition, defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith<\/a> understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day.<\/p>\n

Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people,[1]<\/a><\/sup> often up to 10 times each week at different places. Spurgeon was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel<\/a> (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle<\/a>) in London<\/a> for 38 years.[2]<\/a><\/sup> He was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain<\/a> and later had to leave the denomination.[3]<\/a><\/sup> In 1857, he started a charity organization<\/a> which is now called Spurgeon’s<\/a> and works globally. He also founded Spurgeon’s College<\/a>, which was named after him posthumously.<\/p>\n

Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons<\/a>, an autobiography, commentaries, books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more.[4]<\/a><\/sup>[5]<\/a><\/sup> Many sermons were transcribed as he spoke and were translated into many languages<\/a> during his lifetime. Spurgeon produced powerful sermons of penetrating thought and precise exposition. His oratory skills held throngs of listeners spellbound in the Metropolitan Tabernacle and many Christians have discovered Spurgeon’s messages to be among the best in Christian literature.<\/p>\n
