. . . that I would change the world with some great thing that I would do. The dreams of a young man with a wide-open future can be mighty big. And they die without even being noticed. Pink Floyd sang it well – – “And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.” Huh? What happened? Where did it all go? And why wasn’t I paying attention?

But we miss an important truth if we allow ourselves to wallow in the misery of big opportunity seemingly lost.

For most of us, that “big opportunity” was never real anyway. Yes, there ARE a few who do huge things, who alter the human landscape for millions. For most of us, however (at least, for me), the changes being made are smaller in size, closer to home, affecting fewer people . . . and every bit as important.

If I can help a child see a better future . . . give hope to a friend with a broken heart . . . point a man in the way toward God . . . then I’ve done something as important as anything else ever done by any man born on earth (except for the one Man who was also God.)

I’ve done those things, and more. All in all, it’s been a pretty good run.

And here’s the exciting part: God has given me tomorrow.

How ’bout you?
