Very sparsely attended&#8230;why? Well, maybe because the Bama game was still in progress.<br \/>\nA gratifyingly low-key Mass in the early evening half-darkness. The Paschal candle in front of the altar &#8211; because it is a feast? The homily referred back to an introductory explanation that had been offered before Mass about the significance and reason for the feastday (which I missed), then moved on to say that this was a day to remember the unity of the Church, to remember to pray for our newly elected civic leaders (I am not sure how that segue worked) and then a reminder that we are all called to let the living waters flow through us to help others, and so on.<br \/>\nThe first prayer of the faithful was a prayer that discrimination come to an end. Again, I am not quite sure of the relationship to the bigger picture today.<br \/>\nAs I said, low-key (which is, you might guess, something I appreciate), mostly me and older people &#8211; obviously not Alabama fans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A very nice video featuring Fr. She attended Knoxville Catholic High School, then the University of Tennessee where she majored in history. She received an MA in Church History from Vanderbilt University, where she wrote a thesis on the changing role of women in 19th century American Protestantism, and the ways Scripture was used to justify those changes. She worked as as a teacher in Catholic high schools and a Parish Director of Religious Education and started writing for the diocesan press - the Florida Catholic - in 1988. Amy has written columns for Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Service at times over the past twenty years. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
