Over the past week:
\n*As we leave the Hoover Library, a teen-aged girl in hijab<\/em> whizzes by us on her Heelys<\/a> to a waiting car.
\n*The Indian women who live one building over get out of their minivan, clad not in their usual Western garb, but today in gorgeous, bright, saris, one red one blue, the edges of the fabric glittering, reflecting late afternoon sunlight – perhaps returning from one of these events, I’m thinking. <\/a>
\n*Little Michael and I are walking around Heardmont Park<\/a>. Having done the too-short trails twice already we are bored but still need a little more distance (at least I do. Stroller Boy just wants to hit the slide), so we do a turn through the parking lot. We end up behind three Japanese women, just done with tennis, chatting in, well, Japanese. They part ways, each getting into one of three Honda Ridgelines, parked side-by-side. <\/a>
\n*At Mass, an older woman begins the reading from Philippians, her voice low yet firm and rooted to this place –\u00a0 “Bruuthahs and sistahs<\/em>…”

She worked as as a teacher in Catholic high schools and a Parish Director of Religious Education and started writing for the diocesan press - the Florida Catholic - in 1988. Amy has written columns for Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Service at times over the past twenty years. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
