The Vatican announced Wednesday that Pope John Paul II had accepted Dupre’s resignation, but didn’t release other details.<\/p>\n

In a brief statement, the diocese said Dupre left his post Tuesday “for a medical facility where he will be receiving treatment.”<\/p>\n

In May, Dupre had said he was considering retiring due to ill health, specifically back and heart problems.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
