I&#8217;ll be around, but probably with only about 1\/20th of my brain.<br \/>\nI had a little spurt of book orders yesterday. Thank you! If you&#8217;d like to order books,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amywelborn.com\/bookstore.html\" target=\"_blank\"> please do so &#8211; here&#8217;s the bookstore. <\/a>There are some glitches in the Paypal buttons (my fault &#8211; nothing serious), but just a couple of things:<br \/>\n1) If you want personalized signatures and the note requesting the information doesn&#8217;t come up at the end of the order, drop me a line.<br \/>\n2) Make sure the thing asks you for your address.<br \/>\n3) If you are ordering anything except the Loyola Kids&#8217; books, the Book of Days,  the Prove Its, <em>Here, Now , Mary and the Christian Life <\/em>or the Pocket Guides, <a href=\"\/viamedia\/about-the-blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">drop me a line<\/a> BEFORE you order to see if I have them in stock. I probably don&#8217;t, and I won&#8217;t be re-ordering for a bit.<br \/>\nNext week, Matthew Lickona, Joseph O&#8217;Brien and Bishop Daniel Flores and I <a href=\"http:\/\/insidecatholic.com\/Joomla\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=3927&amp;Itemid=48\" target=\"_blank\">will be discussing Ron Hansen&#8217;s novel <em>Exiles <\/em>over at Inside Catholic.<\/a> <em>Exiles <\/em>weaves together the story of poet Gerard Manley Hopkins and the subjects of his great work <em>The Wreck of the Deutschland <\/em>&#8211; particularly the five German nuns who were on board the ship, traveling to America. Amy grew up in a number of places - Indiana - Washington, DC - Lubbock Texas - Arlington, Virginia - DeKalb, Illinois - Lawrence, Kansas - and Knoxville, Tennessee, where the family settled in 1973. She attended Knoxville Catholic High School, then the University of Tennessee where she majored in history. She received an MA in Church History from Vanderbilt University, where she wrote a thesis on the changing role of women in 19th century American Protestantism, and the ways Scripture was used to justify those changes. She worked as as a teacher in Catholic high schools and a Parish Director of Religious Education and started writing for the diocesan press - the Florida Catholic - in 1988. Amy has written columns for Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Service at times over the past twenty years. Her articles have been published in venues ranging from Our Sunday Visitor to the New York Times to Commonweal. She has written 17 books. 18, if you included the as yet tragically unpublished novel. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
