A different tactic in Michigan<\/a><\/p>\n

Michigan’s House and Senate Wednesday passed a bill defining legal birth as the moment when any portion of a baby has been delivered from the birth canal. All rights afforded to a human being begin at that moment, the new law says.<\/p>\n

Right to Life of Michigan calls it a new conceptual approach to banning partial-birth abortion that has not been tested in the courts.<\/p>\n

Passage of the Legal Birth Definition Act effectively overrides Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s earlier veto of identical legislation. <\/p>\n

“By votes of 23-11 in the Senate and 74-28 in the House, Michigan’s lawmakers have shown their strong, unwavering support for a law that is designed to outlaw the practice of partial-birth abortion in the state of Michigan,” Right to Life of Michigan said in a statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
