{"id":6961,"date":"2006-06-23T00:24:14","date_gmt":"2006-06-23T00:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/viamedia\/2006\/06\/aid-to-the-church-in-need-1.html"},"modified":"2006-06-23T00:24:14","modified_gmt":"2006-06-23T00:24:14","slug":"aid-to-the-church-in-need-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/viamedia\/2006\/06\/aid-to-the-church-in-need-1.html","title":{"rendered":"Aid to the Church in Need"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirche-in-not.org\/index_s.html\">We&#8217;ve blogged on this association before, but it comes up today<\/a> because the group has just published its excellent <em>Children&#8217;s Bible<\/em> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirche-in-not.org\/acn-news\/newsy\/acn%20nevs%20frame.html\">its 150th language edition:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>The international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) has prepared its Bible for Children, \u201cGod speaks to His Children,\u201d in the 150<sup>th<\/sup> version: Sindhi, an Indo-Aryan language which is spoken by about 20 million people in Pakistan\u2019s south eastern Sindh province as well as in the north west Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is mainly written in a modified Arabic script. The first Sindhi edition of \u201cGod speaks to His Children\u201d&nbsp; \u2013 consisting of 10,000 copies \u2013 is currently being printed in Pakistan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Maria Zurowski, head of ACN\u2019s Family Apostolate section, explained June 22: \u201cWhile Scripture often gets neglected in the West, it is of paramount importance for countless people in Third World countries, especially children and young people, including child soldiers and inmates. Also, bishops from around the world have praised this little book as an \u2018excellent tool for evangelisation.\u2019 It has been translated into some of the globe\u2019s rarest languages, such as Tukano for indigenous people in Brazil\u2019s Amazon region or Tshiluba, a tribal language spoken in the Democratic Republic of Congo.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>So far, more than 43 million copies of ACN\u2019s Bible for Children have been distributed and the charity plans to print 1.35 million additional copies this year. Amy has five children, ranging in age from 26 to 4 and was married to Michael Dubruiel, who died unexpectedly in February 2009.
