{"id":6197,"date":"2006-08-30T14:30:04","date_gmt":"2006-08-30T14:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/viamedia\/2006\/08\/exommunicated.html"},"modified":"2006-08-30T14:30:04","modified_gmt":"2006-08-30T14:30:04","slug":"exommunicated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/viamedia\/2006\/08\/exommunicated.html","title":{"rendered":"Exommunicated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifesite.net\/ldn\/2006\/aug\/06083002.html\">Colombian Cardinal takes action:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>Cardinal Alfonso Llopez Trujillo announced Tuesday that the Colombian Catholic Church has excommunicated all persons involved in obtaining an abortion for an 11-year-old girl, who became pregnant after she was raped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The order includes the judges, politicians and legislators involved in the decision, as well as the doctors, nurses and the girl\u2019s parents, the Manila Bulletin Online reported today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under excommunication, all those involved in the abortion are banned from receiving the sacraments, except the sacrament of confession, and may not perform a ministerial role in the Liturgy or other worship ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Participating in abortion carries the automatic penalty of full excommunication, under the Catholic Code of Canon Law. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Cardinal Trujillo, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, has been very clear on the application of excommunication in cases of abortion.
